WW1 German Camoflage Paint Jobs

Hi all,

Wanting to try being a bit more detailed with my aircraft.

Could anyone tell me, other than days of taping and spraying, is there a decal or easy way to get the WW1 Camo effect that the Germans had on their planes.

I am talking about the speckled look with about 4 different colours.

I saw in a FSM mag a while ago how a guy masked and sprayed each dot etc, but I am hoping to not go to that much trouble if i can avoid it.

Thanks guys

are you talking about the lozenge camo?

Ahhhh so thats what its called, thanks for that I am one step closer.

Yes that is the look I was thinking of trying

There are lozenge decals available, but I’m not a WW1 builder, so I can’t help with any manufacturers. They certainly exist though.

Thanks a heap gentlemen, within 5 hours of my query I am now onto exactly what I am after. Amazing how quick it is when you know the actual name it is called< thanks Scorpio. Now the hard part finding the Australian Supplier.

If you have a printer and decal paper, you can make your own lozenge decals for a lot less money than buying them… I did exactly that for my 1/28th Fokker D VII, although the only area I used it was the cockpit interior (the exterior is going to be painted in “my” personal Jasta 11 D VII color scheme… The lozenge-camo was printed on the linen at the factory and would be visible on the inside even though the outside was painted…

Here’s the prototype:
