WW1 Canadian Sharpshooter

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share my most recent completed work: this time around a 1/35 resin Canadian sharpshooter figure from Blackdog. The figure is labeled as British, but given he is armed with a Canadian Ross rifle, I think it was more suitable to that he be Canadian instead. I picked him up over a year ago on ebay and recently came up with an idea for a base that would work for him.

He is wearing an experimental form of camoflage, of which examples are currently held at the Imperial War Museum. I used photos from their archive as a painting guide. You can see a photo of the camo overalls here:

I wanted to create a base that resembled the apocalyptic landscape surrounding the Belgian village of Passchendaele in late 1917. I used a lot of reference photos from the Imperial War Museum for inspiration, such as the following image:

Here is the final result of the project. I hope you enjoy!

WOW - Simply stunning Brandon!

Question - How come some of the pictures don’t have the skull and helmet in the water? Added later?

Thank you! I really appreciate it!

There are actually two pools of water in the vignette, and the one with the skull and helmet are to the left side of the figure. Also in some of the photos the trees or even the figure himself obscure the skull from view, so I can definitely understand the confusion

That was a feature I had planned out from the beginning as part of showing the devastation of the battle but hopefully without being overly excessive. I should add that the skull comes from Royal Model and the helmet from ICM.

What a way to show off such great figure painting! Very dynamic and dramatic base- the perfect backdrop for this fig. Really fine job on it too- the camo overalls look spot-on and you have done fine work on the face too. The leather web equipment and the wood-grain effect on the rifle top it all off.
