WW II German heavy tank

Recommendation for a WW II. German heavy tank. Either a Panther or Tiger II. 1/48 scale. Semi-difficult to challenging, but not expert build. Interested in final paint job than a detailed interior. Also, a model that lets you build your own tracks as opposed to a premade track. Under $100. Ideas?

Welcome to the forums!

Take a look at these 48th scale German tanks

I have not done much armor, so I can’t say if any of these have the tracks option you’re looking for. I’ve done that on a German Tiger tank I built many years ago, but it was 35th scale.

This King Tiger lists individual track links.

For $100, you could get aftermarket tracks and the kit of your choice.

The Tamiya kits are y favorite.

For a King Tiger in 1/48 there’s only one game in town and that’s Tamiya. Tamiya doesn’t have an interior

For a Panther,you have Tamiya,Hobby Boss,and Suyata.

The Suyata has an interior

For tracks look at the 3-D printed tracks, they click together and are cheaper then metals.
Fruil makes 1/48 metal tracks

Tamiya is the way to go, for your requirements for challenge and painting. As far as the tracks go, as others have noted, you can buy aftermarket sets if you want to link the tracks yourself. But I think that if you buy the Tamiya kit and see the tracks, you might decide to go with them, anyway.

Thats a good idea. I usually find Tamiya pretty decent anyhow. Going to go that route. thanks.

Just need to decide which model tank I really want to do now.
