I was putting decals on the other night, using Micro-Set, and for some reason or another, I didn’t notice that there were a few wrinkles on the edge of one of my decals. I placed micro-sol on it, and it seemed to help a little, but there is a definate wrinkle still there. What should I do? Do I prick it with a needle, and use more micro-sol?? Help!!! I’m kinda stuck!!! (no pun intended)
Keep putting Micro-Sol on the decal. Let it dry between applications. (If you don’t you’ll most probably wreck the decal in the process of applying more Micro-Sol because the decal will, be liquefied.)
If you have an air bubble under the decal, you can use a needle to fix it.
If its not an overlapping wrinkle, (its just raised off the surface of the model) then you can try using a very sharp knife to cut the wrinkle and help the decal lay down.
If it’s an overlapping wrinkle, (the decal is folded over itself) then you should just keep applying the Micro-Sol until it blends in. It may be that you are stuck because there is a limit as to how much the Micro-Sol will work as you simply have overlapping decal material. But, hopefully, this will minimize the situation.

There’s so much to go wrong modeling, and they say it ain’t an art. You’ve got the best advice, the only thing I can add is that if all else fails you may be able to paint the wrinkle (after cutting it out) area and blend it in. The other option is buy new decals and re-do it (sux I know). I find decals to be a part of modeling that is real “fiddely” and prone to major screw-ups, at least for me. Good luck…

Thanks for the responses!! Vinny, it seems to be working so far. Right now, there’s still one little wrinkle, but I’m putting the micro-sol a little at a time. BTW, how long do you guys let the setting solution dry, overnight, or just an hour or so?? This is my first major decaling on a model, and it is an Acura NSX race car, so I’m getting lots of practice!! Thanks again!
Drying time depends on the thickness of the decals and the amount of Microsol you are using…Botom line, you don’t want to ruin the decals so “overnight” drying is on the safe side. You can wait less, but the risk of touching a “melted” decal is greater.
