Wouldn't it be cool...

I just have to say that FSM’s forums have some of the nicest people that I have come to know. I am truly humbled by everyone’s willingness to help, guide, and encourage. It has been a privilege getting to know you.

Wouldn’t it be cool to meet each other? Maybe once a week meet for breakfast and just chew the fat? I could see us gathered around a large table in great revelry. I think we’d have a good old time. Well, this isn’t reality, but it’s a fun thought.

Might be difficult for some of us…I can only think of two others living in the Hive of Scum and Villany that I reside in.[whstl]

In any case, chewing the fat is officially frowned upon as bad for the environment…[:O][;)][::DD0][bgr]

Anyone for BBQ Ewok?

Make it dinner, at a bar and count me in.

I understand where you are coming from, Bakster, it would be cool to meet the members of this forum! To hear all the stories, instead of reading them, would be awesome. I’m planning on joining my local IPMS, to meet some local modelers in my area. Hoping at least a couple of them are members here on FSM.

I have met a handful of members at the various shows and events in their areas, for example Armorcon in Conn and Mosquitocon in New Jersey. When there is a show in your area, throw out a post to see if anyone else is going. It’s a blast many share pictures.

I agree, sounds cool. Maybe we could post when we are going to a show or some event so we could meet up. For example, how many of us were at the Butch O’Hare show in November? We could have met for lunch.

A few years ago, I started paying attention to the Readers Gallery and checking where the builders of those models lived. I found 3 in the area and looked for them in the phone book and on the internet. We’ve started an informal club and have been getting together once a month for meetings at each others homes. We also go to MosquitoCon, MarauderCon, PennCon, the Figure show in Valley Forge (you can enter anything) and any others that aren’t too far away (over two hours drive). Two of our members went to the IPMS nationals this year and came home with a few awards. Their builds are in the last issue of the IPMS Journal. We’re up to 7 members now and having a great time. Still checking out the Readers Gallery just in case.

I usually post when a show is getting close. We started wearing the same shirts or caps and I posted to look for us. When you get to the show and start looking at the entries and talking to the builders, you loose track of time and soon it’s award time. I have asked if someone would make an announcement for FSM forum members to meet at a certain place for pics but no one showed up. Make loads of new friends at every show but they don’t say if they’re members or not.

Bruce–you hit the nail on the head. Reading the stories is one thing, hearing them in person is another.

You guys have some great ideas. I will have to watch for the shows then.

Steve

I have met, in person, with a few from here…having your location (or close enough to it) under your avatar helps in that regard…“Hey, you’re from XXX, I’m just down the road in YYY”

Also, if there’s a show/contest coming up in your area, post it…ask if anybody else will be attending. Even if you don’t enter anything…meet, greet, and hit the vendor tables!

My bad…seems there are three others also inhabiting the Hive of Scum and Villany I am located.[:O]
Hafta organize lunch before 9 am the next show, though.
I didn’t finish photographing entries or buying $5 kits from dealers until 2pm that day.
Did get a shot of Beans’ wonderful Martian War Machine, though.

In case you folks have the opportunity- NIMCON 5 is May 2016 at McHenry College.
Don’t worry about recognizing me.
I don’t believe I’ll be hard to miss…

That would seem to be the most practical for regular socializing, IMHO.

For the last couple months, I’ve been meaning to attend one of the meetings that are held on the first Sunday of the month. But, I don’t think about it until the second Sunday of the month! LOL! I will attend in January…

Well I’m in the tax you to death state. Commonly called connecticut

I go to Armorcon in Danbury on the last Saturday of september, quite a few are usually there.

I think this forum is the most civil of the modeling sites I visit. There are other ones that have uber experts aplenty, but I find this place the best balance between the experts and beginners.

It would be nice to get to meet other members face to face, but we are all over the globe. That is too bad, but at the same time that is what makes internet forums so amazing, as we can talk to people who have firsthand knowlege anywhere in the world. Well, maybe not from North Korea.

I am in the middle of a huge ocean, so that limits my ability to have lunch or dinner with members. But as others have mentioned, contests would be an ideal venue for an FSM meet and greet. The IPMS USA National Convention would be good for those who live in the US. And FSM is also there!

Hear! hear![t$t]

How 'bout the Moss Eisley Cantina?
I hear they have a great band ! [:D][Y]

I’m game… bring your own weapons.

What wormhole is that for my GPS ?

I was at the ipms nationals last year and I wish that I would have joined this forum earlier, maybe I would have recognized some of you guys. if I make the next nats I’ll have to make plans to meet with some of you.
