Hi guys n gals, heres an idea that i got on another thread. whats the worst, most unbuildable piece of cruddy plastic on your to build pile?.
mine are the two revell lancs, the matchette h,p herald (a box of warps with some kit thrown in), two matchbox Phantoms (they where cheap and i have some aftermarket decals and a full tube of greenstuff begging to be used)
i’m sure there are more upstairs but i want to keep SOME credability here LoL.
over to you [:D] don’t be shy, we all have some bears in the closet i’m sure.
Well, I have the old superclunky Doyusha 1/100 Concorde sitting here, but with the new 1/72 Concordes from Heller and Airfix on the horizon, I probably won’t be building it.
The Doyusha kit represents the prototype aircraft (production aircraft are misleadingly pictured on the box), which I don’t find very attractive (funky mole-like windscreen).
The one I’m currently building. Actually I have the 1/72 revell B-24D on my pile, one of the days when the mood strikes me I’ll completely scratch build an interior for it. I hate to see any kit go to waste.
currently the revell 1/48 f4f. the wings dont seem to fit right. the undercarrage is low detail and seems to have two different scale parts. however my building skills are improving by building this kit.
The MiniCraft 1/48 Bonanza. On top the panel lines, and raised detail are off by a 1/16" one way, and on the bottom it’s off by about an 1/16 the opposite way!!! It’s back in the box for now. Also the Revell Germany 1/72 P-2 Neptune is a piece of junk, but very expensive!! At least the minicraft kit was only $10.00. Even Tamiya is cheaper than the Neptune kit. I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago, but I do want my moneys worth, even if it just sits there for a couple of years.
Hiya Heath, thanks for the info on that Neptune. i was considering getting one but i’ll shelve that idea. cheers. that Bonanza sounds like a real one that i worked on once (not saying it was bad but its condition got reported to the CAA).
how about a dog of a kit group build ? [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

My personal bete noire is an Airfix/AMT/Fundimensions Eagle Transporter; just about every part is out of proportion. Of course, now I have a set of plans for the original, I don’t need to use the thing
Hmmm… I think I already did it with Battle Axe’s Beech 18 JR4B. But, if I had to guess which box in my stash the next gremlin was hiding in I’d probably say one of my vacuform kits I’ve been avoiding like big roadkill on the interstate. Gonna practice a little more with some of the multi-media kits like the Special Hobby Sikorsky R-4B I’m building now before I go with a full vacuform kit.
As for regular injection mold; probably gonna have to go with my P-26 Peashooter. I think I’ve got the Hobbycraft kit, but it will have the most post general assembly work done to it given the fancy paint job I want to do, custom decals, and the rigging. Gonna face all the demons on that one.
the Eagle transporter!!! wow thats a blast from the past. are they available again? i built one as a kid and thought it was great (young and dumb as they say).LoL

I’m fortunate that my “to be built” pile is small right now and there doesn’t seem to be any nasty kits hiding out in it.
The most challenging I’ve got right now is my Revell 1/32 MiG-21 MF. Certainly not the worst kit I’ve ever worked on, but it did need more attention and thinking than most others I’ve worked on. I’ve had it on the go for about 6 years now. I don’t mind taking my time with it, it was a gift so giving up on it is just not to be done.
Here’s a list of some nasties that hit my work table and never made it to completion:
Life’s short - build the better kits first and maybe someone else will produce another, better kit than the bad one that’s available. In 1/72 scale, before I came to that conclusion, I did a pretty good VF-124 F-14 from the Monogram kit, which was based on the mockup; an Airmodel vacuform F2H before Airfix’s injection molded one came out; and a really good F5U from the Pegasus offering - who knew anybody else, much less Hasegawa, would do one? Right now, though, I’m trying to coax the Italeri X-32 and the X-35 into something closer to the prototypes…
I would have to say that I have a couple in that category, one would be the 1/32 Dougles Dauntless that I am going to rescribe and scratchbuild the cockpit, once I have the money and the ambition to do so, and then the Hasegawa Sea King, as well as the Dukes of Hazard Charger. That would do it for me. Thanks for the thread idea.
On second thought, it’s my Airmodel vacuform AJ Savage . I should have saved it as the basis for an A2J - that wouldn’t take any more work than it already has to make it an AJ…
scratch what i said about building my skills. after spending two hours trying to get 5 pieces to fit together and looks somewhat decent i had to cut and piece together. almost used the kit for test flight to prove the existance of gravity. (ie throw as far as possible and hope it shatters on impact)
heck man, im a wuss and just buy tamiya and hasegawa kits. they go together with a little green stuff and sanding so far. i have ventured out side my box and purchased the revell P-40 which became airbrush fodder for about 2 months as i applied so many coats of paint to it just practicing that i chunked it. then there was the revell F-14 that ended up the same as the P-40. later.
the worse kit ive built, not the actual kit engenearing (great kit, if you have patience): Trumpeter MiG 19 or MiG 15.
the 19 is way overengineered, probubly more detailed than the origional, but if you misalign several pieces, nothing will fit together. plus, the wingroots are !#*$(!@$&
the 15: great fit, small parts count, but detail? HA good joke
Hello everyone I would have to say my airfix seaharrier and amt ertl xb-70A-1 limited edition. Both have crappy fits and the airfix is made out of plastic you could melt by your own bodie heat or breath.[:D]
