works in progress image intensive

Hi All

I`ve finally got a new camera (believe it or not I somehow glued the case shut on the old one) and have been taking some photos of works in progress. As I flit alot from one model to another I sometimes forget where or what I was up to and photos are a good way of reminding me of what I was trying to achieve.

Me 109g-10 Croation air force

I`ve always liked this scheme and I first did it years ago in 1:72. Its appeared on this forum before under “A funny thing happened on the way to the forum” when it was a tale of woes and ended up with me melting the wingtip. Well its been repaired and is at present being included in a diorama based on a photograph.

I`m currently building a dozen figures to go with this from bits of Bandai, Tamiya, Preiser Etc so I dont expect to finish any time soon.

The lower pic is of my model in half tone. I often do this as a colour check on old photo`s and only wish that there was some way of turning old black and white into colour at the touch of a button.

ME 262C Tiger stripes and a shark mouth.

This is another long term project, mainly because I didnt realise the limitations of the Dragon kit and at the cost price I just built it like a Tamigawa and found problems later. This is the 3rd time on the bench and I finally think Ive got it licked.

The rear engine is scratchbuilt and was totally fitted after the model was attached to the dio base. The tail trolley is mainly Evergreen rod and Hobbycraft spare 109 wheels.

The paint job is entirely ficticious and is assumed that the plot to kill Hitler suceeded and Goering became the German Leader, and allowed his pilots the same freedom as the jastas of WW1 as regards paint finishes.

The last photo is of an attempt to hide the strange squareness to the nacelles which seem semi circular in photo`s.

ME262 Mistel

Another long job 2-3 years in the building. Might not be the best in my collection but is certainly the tallest (until I build a Triebflugal).

Since it last appeared it has gained some figures and a gantry/access ladder. The gantry was built from Evergreen rod and contains 55 swear words and 36 curses.

Ive got loads more pix of aircraft from the list below and others. If you want to see them let me know.

A question… it`s taking roughly 15minutes to upload each photo to photobucket via dialup. Is there any way of speeding this up?

Comment of all types good n bad are greatly welcomed.

Regards Gary

Hey - nice pics man. Love the Mistel…and the 262 with the rocket engine is an eye opener. Nice.

In regards to the Photobucket upload time, I’m afraid you’re stuck if you’ve only got dial-up. Broadband is much faster, and cable is faster yet.

Wow nice looking photos Gary, I especially like the late war scheme on the 109 it looks great.

As for Photobucket, when I was on a dial-up connection I sometimes had the same problem and it’s only partly to do with your connection speed. Depending on the time of day and any maintenance issues it can sometimes take a while to upload photos to a photobucket account. You notice it less on a fast connection but the problem still exists.

Well at least the people of Oz are awake. Thanks for the nice words guys.

Really good stuff guy.

And I like the subject matter since I’m a German reenactor.

Nice stuffoyu goit there. Really like the 262 with the rocket tail.

I love that camo on the 262. It looks like something the Luftwaffe would have really used. Nice detailing on the engine to.

Gary, your builds are superb! I really love that 262C in the tiger camo[tup] Your work is a real pleasure to see. Great stuff!

now that mistel I like, you just don’t see many of those. The camo molt on the upper aircraft is excellent. I’ll bet that tiger 262 is a head turner at a show, different but I still like it. I just don’t have the drive to paint the figures, someday that may change.

All the pics are great! I recognize Galland in the 262 pics… very cool!!

Sweet pic’s. I love the subject matter.

Incredible work garyallum. The aircraft, figures, wrenches(wow!), bases, and the artistic and realistic way it all comes together looks like they should be on display in a museum. Well done.

At the risk of sounding incredibly ignorant, can you explain the last aircraft (x2) diorama please? I’ve never seen anything like that before.

Hi Starbuck, Nobodies ignorant…theres just stuff we don`t know yet.

The kit is made by Dragon and comprises two Me262 kits with the ground trolley. This variant is fictional but the Luftwaffe actually made and used weapons of this style in WW2.

This kit when bought comes as above, but never the one to take an easy route I decide to play around with it. As aircraft get old and used they get relegated to flying schools etc and so I decided to take the top component, remove the canopy and turn this into the bomb/warhead lower part. The white s in the markings denote this as a flying school airframe. Now the upper airframe on my model is the lower bomb part in the kit, modified to represent the late war project 262 design of moving the cockpit forwards with the rest of the aircraft unchanged. This meant scratch building the cockpit interior as none of the kit parts would immediately fit into the reduced space. The canopy was constructed of the kit bits glued together filled sanded and polished before push moulding into clear sheet. The only other alteration was refining the Jumo 004 engines into somthing like the BMW 003R with built in rockets to replace the RATO pods under the fuselage of the bottom plane.

Glad you liked it and hope this explains it all, for further info type luft46 in your search engine for other weird stuff.

Super effort, Gary. I don’t want to know how many hours you have in it. Very interesting and believable diorama.

Hi All Like my other post Werk No.2 the pictures on here are rapidly vanishing and the comments as to Photobucket images missing apply here to. Any answers anyone?

regards Gary

Hahaha I just spit Theraflu all over my monitor! HAHAHAHA[(-D]

Very nice looking models. That IS one tall kit.

Sorry.

good luck with the cold/flu.
