Working with milliput?

Posted this ? on techniques but no replies so I’ll try here. I read the directions for the milliput I got but before I use it on my Flanker I was wondering if anyone has any tips about using it. I’ve got the superfine formula and will be using it to blend the canard extensions into the body. Any info would great, thanks!

Have a little talcum powder around so it doesn’t stick to your hands and work surface.
Also, dampen your sculpting tools with water to smooth out the surface once you’ve worked it into a rough shape.

Hi Klem

I have only used Milliput once and it was for something fairly similar to what your plan to use it for. I think you would do better using a normal putty like Tamiya or Squadron green putty. Is the area you need to fill needs a thick amount, build it up 2 or more layers as needed. I used it to reshape the leading edge of a vertical stabilizer. Being very hard, it takes some work getting it to shape and when the edges were feathered really thin, I found it did not adhere all that well to the plastic and was chipping off. I had to “paint” these edges with thin CA and sand to shape again.

When I was filling the crevasse on the FM 1/48 Do-24 wing I applied a healthy amount of Milliput then wet my finger and smoothed out the surface. Did this three or four times then let it cure overnight. A little sanding and had an excellent result. Also so KY jelly works for keeping your tools clean when working with this stuff.

This is before sanding.

Oh yeah, I can see myself now, rummaging around a certain display at the back of the pharmacy for “modeling supplies.”

While you are there pick up some eye liner swabs and finger nail polishers – that’ll make for an interesting list at the checkout lane.

and least we forget the cuticle scissors and blush brush.

I am so not gonna take take the bait to make a comment on that…
