Has anyone here attempted to build a working SPMT?

I think some have on a 1 to 1 scale. 
They are so cool. I saw one on the jobsite in Dec when I was in Mexico inspecting a power plant being constructed.
They used one at my job to move a whole building section into place. Very impressive.
