What’s the best way to repicate wood grain? Anything will help. Thanks
I like modelmaster wood,with a brown wash
Check this out.
I build a lot of WWI aircraft (most of the WWII stuff bores me) , and many require being able to simulate natural wood both inside and out. I start with a base coat of Tamiya dark yellow, a coat of Future gloss, then a thick wash of dark brown enamel wiped on with a small piece of foam (nothing works better to create a wood grain effect). A fiinal coat of either Tamiya clear yellow or clear orange seals the deal.
If you make your own inkjet decals, an easy way is to make “woodgrain” decals. I photograph the appropriate wood, then make decal from the photograph. Making inkjet decals these days is much easier than when the paper first came out- they have improved it a lot and it isn’t that hard to do.
