Just starting a new WIP here–a Tamiya Wirbelwind with some PE zimm that I’ve been wanting to try for a while now. I also got me some PE for the exterior. I’m going to use some Dragon tracks too.
This PE zimm is pretty cool stuff. I’ve read a lot of reviews on it saying “I don’t like it; it’s too thin”. I disagree. It seems to me to be close to scale. I think what happened is that we got used to seeing models with bigger, out-of-scale zimmerit, and now this appears to be underscale? But I think it looks pretty cool.
I’ve been applying it with thick CA glue, and it seems to hold prettty well. The edges have been sealed with Squadron White putty. Here’s where I am so far…

Wow! That was quick Karl! Back with another WIP so soon! Its looking good so far…I’ve always read that PE zim was “too thin” myself, but I like what I see!
Doog I think the zim looks great and I like how your sealing the edges. I’ve seen builds where edges are actually peeling off and it doesn’t help the overall look.
You’re off to a great start, Karl! I think the Zimmerit looks spot on! I really liked your 4502 WIP, so I’ll follow this one with great interest!
Just a small remark: The tank is spelled “Wirbelwind” (German for Whirlwind). I don’t want to be ovely picky, but with German being my native language, I just notice things like this vrey easily…
Well, I"m happy to have you along! I can honestly say I’ve never heard anyone describe the Wirbelwind as their “favorite” German armor–that in itself inspires me to excel in this build! [Y][H]
