Here’s my latest project, a 1/48 scale Piper L-4. It’s tiny but that doesn’t mean no detail. Still need to weather the interior a little. Ultimately it’ll be finished as one of a few Grasshoppers operated “unofficially” by Australian forces. The borrowed them from the Americans to use for recon and communications in New Guinea.
Is that the 3d printed engine for it, Aaron?
No, it’s the kit’s plastic engine. It thought about the aftermarket option, but most of it can’t be seen. I picked up the masks.
They had a special with all the extras when the kit was first issued and I got one of those. The engine is really well done. I know it well having learned to fly in the Cub.
Ah, looking forward to this one. Cockpit is looking good. I was going to say “Not much detail there” but then I remembered that the real ones don’t have much cockpit detail either! ![]()
I got to see a whole pile of Cubs up close at Oshkosh this year and have been trying to choose a kit to build – thinking Guillows at this point – but I’ll be watching close.
Describing a Cub’s cockpit as basic is probably overselling it!
Carb heat, heel brakes, a fuel shut off, and magneto switches.
John, you’re not supposed to help Aaron. I’m calling this deus ex jeaton01.
Ignore Tim, jeaton01. I do.
You wish! ![]()
Don’t you have stories to edit?
I have the civilian version of the Special Hobby kit. Of course, it will be U.S. Army when it’s built. Maybe with invasion stripes. I’ll be watching your build, Aaron.
Well, I guess I will take that as a compliment but mind you I took Russian in high school, not Latin…
I’ll not claim anymore of Aaron’s thread. Good luck, A-A-Ron!
