[WIP] Ailvard's Corvette C4, 88, Monogram, 1/8

Hi Everyone!

After building the Pocher Testarossa in 1/8 scale ([WIP] Ailvard's Ferrari Testarossa, Pocher, 1/8) , decided to take a challenge with Monogram Corvette 85. This would complement my real Corvette C4 88, with the same rims and some modifications related to 88 year (the monogram’s model is 85, which is not a big difference). Plus I will try to make it way more detailed, than kit offers by default

I bought this kit in ebay, relatively chip ~$70 in a mint condition - even the plastic wrap was there.

The undercard in the model in molded as a single piece - I decided to cut it and make separately the Rear end, mufflers, exhaust and wiring\piping

The wheels are also made pretty strange - they have 2 inner sides with molded brakes to the shield. I didn’t like that and decided to make it more real

It required to use 3d printer to make brake rotors. Also, since the brake calipers where only halfs - I molded mine one by duplicating these halfs in epoxy

Made custom shock absorbers from aluminum pipes (I have KYB on my real car, so decided to stick with that  ) and added details to steering rack

Engine was reworked too

And here is undercarriage result (without mufflers and exhaust)

Then I added exhaust (bended stainless steel pipes), mufflers (aluminum can foil) + some hardware
(btw - all bolts are real - either brass bolts or steel nuts and screws)

Next in the list is interior and doors (thinking about cutting them out from the body).

Where did you get the “real” bolts and nuts? They really sell those areas.

ebay  Sometimes they sell it in a big boxes (100+ bolts) - it is cheaper. But usually they sell by 10 in a bag. Just search for “hex 00-90 or 0-80 brass bolts”.
Regarding the screws - found them in Amazon - similar to these: Amazon.com: E-outstanding 600pcs M1 M1.2 M1.4 M2.5 Mini Electronics Screws Nuts Assortment Tool Kit 12 Kinds of Repair Hardware Tools Box with Screwdriver for Electronic Products : Industrial & Scientific

What an in-depth project @Ailvard. In knowing about this kit I was a little skiddish at first when I opened the thread but after seeing all of the modifications and corrections that you are putting into it, it’s one heckuva top notch build in progress. Excellent work!

In this scale just about anything is possible nowadays Mike. Heck even in 1/24, 1/25 and down to 1/43rd scale anything is possible.

Holy smokes!! Awesome details, and the hardware is the flipping cherry :cherries: on top :joy::fire::fire::fire::fire:

I have a set of hex punches from RP Toolz and punch out hex bolt heads as I need them. That’s another alternative.

Wow. Really nice detail.
I haven’t touched a scale model since I was about 12. 38 years later I am just starting to refind the passion and also just joining this forum.

After just finishing my real ground up 79 Trans Am build LS3 conversion I just found the 1/8” Revell Trans Am S/E model and am currently building that.

I too am trying to go that extra level of detail with stainless fuel lines and Wiring harness, ignition etc. Your build is fantastic and has given me some great ideas!! Amazing what you did with those bolts!!!

Great job!!! I love the 1/8 kits!!!

Ailvard, that engine compartment looks amazing! Your attention to all of the little details is what sets this build apart from others. This is going to look epic when its completed. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Thank you. Depends on how it comes out lol!!

When I was 12 I remember the parts being bigger and much more clear. Now at 50 they seem to be smaller and much more blurry!

I’ll post some pics when I get further down the road.

Guess what BirdistheWord, at 63 the parts look even smaller and blurrier.
