WIP: AFV Club M5A1 Stuart

Hi guys,

As promised a couple of shots on a project I’m working on (…Well, off and on is a better word for it). AFV Club’s great little M5A1 Stuart early version. The model is completed with a Voyager PE set and painted using Gunze acrylics…

Looking very good there. It looks like you are still working on the tracks. Are you using the individual tracks of the kit?

Hi,

The plan is to place the all steel T36E6 steel bar cleat tracks.

Cheers, John.

very nice .

Ron

I love, love, LOVE your paint–the post shading looks great. Exactly how I paint my models, and nice to see someone else really do this technique properly!

A nice amount of detail there in the hatch too!

Awesome looking kit. I love the attention to detail, like the newspaper. Great job!

Thanks for the nice comments boys. The gap under the screens are adressed to, no more peek-thru holes anymore…[:$] The plan is to load this little baby up with stowage in the same faint colors which I used for the vehicle as well. Not sure to place this on a groundwork, since I’m quite a newbe on that terrain…Tips??

Grtz, John.

Looking really, really good so far.

Can’t wait to see the end result on this one.

…Can someone tell me if there’s a stowage set available for this kit, or is it going to be old fashioned hand-work for me??

TFL, John. [H]

Love the paint work and details on this one, looking forward to the next round of updates! [B] Can’t help you with the stowage question but check around the usual places for Allied gear and you should be able to find what you need…even if it’s not specifically made for the Stuart, a little adaptation should be all you would have to do depending on how much you want to load it up.

Hi Bill,

Glad you like my kit so far…I know there’s a stowage set from Legend and from Blast models, but these sets have both there focus on the engine-deck. I have a picture of a D-Day Stuart on which the turret is loaded with stowage. It looks like I have to do some work with Magic Sculp and some left-overs!! [:D]

New pics are on their way…John.

Blackdog has a set for the M3A1 Stuart. Don’t really know how it would fit the M5.

Stunning work so far. The tonal variations are superb.

Well guys,

A decision has been made!! Got a mail from a small modelling company in Holland, Reality in Scale with two new items…It looks if they are made for this running project.

I stated before that I wasn’t sure to put this Stuart into a diorama or on a groundwork, well, it definately is going to be a dio!!

Here’s a couple of shots of the new items:

Sorry,

I’m not sure if it is allowed to post links to shops here, if it isn’t please remove this post mods…

i’m working the same kit right now, there’s a seperate hole on the top of the turret that is directly under the search light, i can’t find anything about it in the instructions and can’t find a part on the sprues for it… do i need to just fill it in??? any help would be appreciated…

Malone Duke,

I ran into the same problem, tried to figure out where the hole was for…no result! I dug-up my reference pics, again no direct result, so I opted to fill it up, using a small disc of Evergreen and some putty, after sanding no-one can tell it was there. After placing the search light it was completely invisible!!

Not sure if my action was historic correct, but better than leaving a hole in my model…

Grtz, John.

thanks, i researched the same and never found a good pic, so fill er up… i needed that second opinion…
