I’ve just finished a 1/25 1941 Chevy truck and made it all rusted and sorry looking! (if you’re interested please see my video on YouTube under DanDonde modelling)
Anyway, this gave me some insperation! I’d like to start on a post apocalypse style Winnebago / camper / school bus type thing. I cannot find any scale kits for this type of vehicle at all.
Do they exist? If so do you know of a manufacturer that does them?
Probably the closest in injection-molded kits would be MPC’s ancient (but still very nice) “Open Road Pickup Camper”…issued in numerous versions over the years, the last (I believe) being a dual kit by Model King with the old “Racer’s Wedge” trailer.
Revell also does a nice VW Camper Van, which I believe is still readily available.
Some years ago I picked up one of Galaxie Ltd.'s 1/24 Tandem Hauler Trailer kits…with a view toward scratchbuilding a large-scale version of the hideous (but fondly-remembered) Matchbox “Trailer Caravan”—complete with sick pink exterior color and baby-blue interior. I have both of the above-mentioned kits as possible donors of interior bits—as well as keeping an eye on G-scale stuff on Ebay—but it’s still in the “haven’t quite gotten around to it” category. But one day…
Thank you! That looks just the ticket! The hunt can begin in earnest. I was planning on detailing the interior from scratch so this looks to be a perfect donor!
You might check die cast models. I recently purchased a 1/24 scale Shasta travel trailer and in my search for that I do recall seeing die cast pickups with campers.
I can’t help you with the Winny . But , that said there is always a plethora of the G.M. Motorhomes at Flea markets . Many with gas or insurance company logos .
I am presently re-bashing one to match the one I used to own . Once in a while a Winnebago Chieftain Will show up . Rarely and usually in poor shape .
I believe that Revell of Germany has a couple bus models available, including a London Double Decker in 1/24 scale, and a City Liner Tour Bus (though that one may be currently out of production) and it also looks like there are some Japanese or Chinese kits of various city buses and tour buses.
It looks like alot of these bus kits could either be built as striat bus models, or converted to large mobile homes. In addition, since many of the older Winnebago style vehicles appear to be kind of flat sided, you could maybe try and kitbash something from a donor truck model and built up parts.
Here is a link to a Winnebago Paper Model that could be of use either on its own or as a template for a plastic model kitbash.
Tonka did a class A "indian coach, almost looks like the one RIK posted above, along with a class C type. The Indians are pricey, the class C’s not so much. Search evilbay under tonka motorhome.
