I have a Squadron reference book on the way, but in the mean time, I can’t figure out what is going on with Italeri’s color choice. They’re saying to paint the battery, radiator, fan, and intake Gloss Gull Gray…? There’s no way that’s correct, is it? I should have also taken a pic of their chart, but the dark areas you see in these pics are the same as those they say represent gloss gull gray.
The pics I’ve found online show these being either black (or dark grey), olive, or a combo therein (with weathering, of course).
Maury, the engine block should be od as well as the intake. The other items you mentioned should be a flat black…however I would paint the black items a weathered color of black i.e. Polly Scale Grimy Black or Tamiya Smoke. Hope this helps.
scroll down and you will see a link for color and finish of jeep parts. This shows the differences between the Willys built MB and the Ford built GPW jeep parts.Biggest color difference is that Ford engines were painted gray and Willys were OD.I am presently starting to restore a 1/1 scale 1943 Willys MB.Hope this helps.
