WII Italian Hull Green

Good day,

I’m not here to ask if green is correct, but to compare 2 different paint samples from different manufacturers. I tried to use Life Colors; UA 617 Verde Scuro Antivegetativo* (Dark Green Antifouling). I don’t have much luck with this paint brand, it devolved into is a strong mutual dislike relationship, so I thought I would try Squadrons paint line since they carried the same color, however when I received my bottle it was way lighter than I expected. So, LC v. Squadron both bottles shaken and stirred to ensure complete mixing and a vast difference, I’ve always seen the darker color used on built WWII Italian ships. I’m just looking opinions.

Thank you

to me the dark is too dark and the light is too light , somewhere in between maybe .

This is the hull using Squadron Colors Italian anti-fouling green over a flat black primer. Unfortunately, the tape pulled up some of the gray on the hull sides. Correct or not this is the color that will remain. Having built the Roma using the Life Color anti-fouling green, which is much darker, I cannot pick a favorite one. When the Veneto is finished, I’ll put them side by side and compare. Or I’ll ask the wife and she’ll tell me which one if better!

I don’t know anything about Life Color or Squadron paints as I don’t airbrush and can’t use them.
BUT…
What I can tell you is that if it were me and I was painting an Italian WW2 navy ship, I’d choose the Squadron color. Why? Because I know the guy (Jeff Herne) who created those paints. He knows his research and goes to great lengths to make sure the colors are as correct as possible. He won’t steer you wrong.
The correct Squadron color would most likely be # SCN508 Verde Scuro Antivegetativo paint.
