Why does tamiya’s dark yellow paint look like sand paper after spraying? I just sprayed some on my jagdpanzer and i had to take all of the paint off…[:(!]. this is not the first time it has happened to me!
Its most likely you are not thinnning it enough.
Could be so many things. Not thinned enough, wrong thinner, to much over spray, paints drying before it reaches the surface.I’ve been there to.
What are you thinning your paint with? At what ratio of thinner to paint? What air-pressure are you spraying at? Just to name a few things that can affect your paint job, drat!
Does this sound like the paint is drying before coming in contact with the model. So instead of flowing onto the model part and then drying, maybe the paint is drying just prior to making contact with the model part, thus giving the impression of a ‘sandpaper build-up’? Just thinking out loud.

Operator error, try buying Tamiya thinner, or isopropyl alchohol with a few drops of dish soap.
I used to have a few problems spraying tamiya acrylics until I started using tamiyr brand thinners. Give that a try and Im sure it wii make a difference.

I have had good experience with Tamiya colours, dark yellow to, thinned with Tamiya thinner or Isopropanol with just a drop of dish soap.
Had big problems when using Canned Air, seems as if the spray easily gets to cold which deffo results in sand paper look.
These tips worked well for me:
Colour / Thinner ratio, better stay on the thin side
Preasure, try to keep it low
Distance, keep it low
Flow, with the first three set and you can much better control coverage using flow as the last parameter.
Yeah, I’d say thinning is the problem. I had the same problem out of the jar, the paint seems to dry in midair leaving small bits.
I since thin it with 70% Iso and dropped the pressure on my AB to about 15 PSI.
It doesn’t hurt to stir it really well either.
I thined it 70 30 thinner to paint, using isopropyl. I read that if you put a couple of drops of future in it, it helps allot.
Hmmmm! I’ve heard of a drop of dish detergent, but I’ve not heard of using future in the paint itself? Semper Fi, Mike
hmm, I have to dissagree I think it’s because he’s not thinnnnnnnnning it enough[:D]
the bolding of thinnning was my deed
yep. try thinnig it. [:D]
I thin it 70 thinner, 30 paint [|)]
