Over the past 12 month’s , every time I visit the hobby stores their always out of stock of FS.36375. I airbrush with Gunze Sangyo acrylics , so the color H-308 isn’t available . Even in the Testors/Model master enamels it’s hard to buy . Therefore I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to mix their own using other colors to produce H-308 [FS.36375]. I always use a sryinge to siphon out an exact amount of paint to alcohol ratio.So has anyone ever experimented with this idea , using so many CC/MLs of different colors to make H-308[%-)]
Have you looked at Vallejo’s Model Air Light Grey 4A? That’s supposed to be FS.36375.
I tried to replicate it today and got fairly close although it is a bit too blue still but close enough for me as paint fades in the real world anyhow.
I put 1 part Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey with 2 parts XF-2 Flat White
Thank’s Mike ; I’ll give that a try as well and compare it to a few of the aircraft kits in my collection Finished with FS.36375 , F-15 , F-16 , A-6E , A-7E . I’ll let you know how it goes .
Have you tried Xtracrylix/Xtracolour enamels by www.hannants.co.uk excellent paints.

Not as accurate as it could be but it is close enough for me.
As you can see it is still too much on the blue side and adding more white would only make it a more pale version of what it is now. It needs more grey to make it accurate but like I said, I don’t think it’s that critical unless you are a rivet counter. [;)]
On the left is Model Master 36375 enamel and on the right is the Tamiya mixture.

The 36375 lt gray is listed under in the Model Master Acryl line as Light Ghost Gray. If you look at the bottle where the Bar Code is the last 5 digits of it is the FS Number… So I have been told.
Also in the Poly Scale line the same color is listed as US Ghost Gray Light…

Thank’s everyone for all the tips ; I tried Mike V’s idea with pretty much the same result , the colour looked very close to Gunze H-306 . so I guess i’ll keep experimenting . I also realize that an easy solution is to buy gunze acrylic’s on-line from hobby stores outside Australia . However I did purchase 6 jars of gunze paints from a hobby store in New Zealand last year . Unfortunatly the package had a dangerous goods lable on it ; which ment that Customs are allowed to check the package , which in turn I received a $30.00 inspection fee . A rather expensive exercise . I just thought mixing my own would be a cheaper alternative[%-)] Kind Regards Helo .
Last night I was reading through my squadron signal publication on the EA-6B Prowler , there is a photo of a prowler with a early TPS camouflage scheme . that is upper surface FS36320 , while the undersurfaces were FS36495 . Portions of the upper nose , forward wing sections and horizontal stabilizers FS35237 . light Compass gray FS36375 later replaced the light gray on the TPS undersurfaces . So this got me thinking about experimenting more with colour mixing ; so I tried 3 parts of Gunze H-307[FS36320] to 1 part H-338[FS36495] and I have to say I like the results so far. Today I’ll spray the wing of an inexpensive F-15 kit I have with my paint mix and once dry I’ll mask and spray the outer edges with some H-307 and see how it looks .
Where abouts in Oz are you? Gunze acrylics are pretty widely available here in Sydney at approx. ($A)3 per bottle.
Hi phil , I live in the western suburbs of Sydney .There’s 4 hobby stores I go to frequantly and an on-line hobby store at Newcaslte [just north of sydney] , I order kit’s and paint from . They all have an extensive range of Gunze Sangyo acrylics ; It’s only the colour H-308 which seems difficult to buy .
Ohh, ok. I drop into Kelletts at Liverpool every once in a while - will check the paint racks next time and let you know if I spot any H-308’s.

I did a test spray on the wing of an F-15C Eagle and compared it to a finished F-15C I did three years ago.The inside colour is Gunze H-307,and the outside colour is a combination of 3 CC/mls H-307,1 CC/mls H-338,and half a CC/mls H-314.Thinned with an equal amount 50/50 of isopropyl alcohol.

you’re doing fine! those colors are almost dead on, the one on the right seems a tad lighter but close enough to call ‘just right’… you might try adding a drop or two of the darker color and see if it brings it in closer? That’s a really good job on the jet on the left by the way… once I stopped looking at the colors I realized what a great build you’d done!!!
Thank’s Tom , I appreciate the help with posting pic’s . I might try leaving the colour H-314 out of the mix , it does look a shade too light blue . The completed F-15C was only the second aircraft kit I had ever airbrushed about 3 years ago, upon graduating from hand brush painting ;unfortunatly while removing the aircraft from the display cabinet I snapped off the ECM aerial from the right side tail fin .
For me, FS36424 is even harder to come by. Can anyone help?
My hobby paint reference charts only list that colour as available as Tamiya acrylic XF-20 Medium Gray . Is Tamiya paints available where you are ? Hope this helps. Helo 53
