Who's built a 1/48 Hasegawa AV-8B Harrier II Plus?

I have been looking at the AV-8B for a while and read some reviews, and I have a few questions. Most reviews were saying the colors in the manual are wrong, is that true and if so what are the right colors? Is it a troublesome build? Also, people were saying the cockpit was under-detailed, so do you think a person who has only done a few cockpits could pull off an Aires? I was looking at pictures of the planes cockpit and I noticed the cockpit is mostly black and fairly simple- so the Aires shouldnt be too hard to paint right? Please correct me if I’m wrong also.

I have built several. The colors Hasegawa gives are indeed wrong. The colors you need depends on if you are doing the 2 tone or 3 tone gray schemes. The FS numbers for the 3 tone are 36118, 36231, and 36320. The newer 2-tone is 36118 over 35237. The kit goes together ok, just watch when you add the LEX parts. It will help if you remove the locating tabs on the “insert” parts for the fuselage. The cockpit is ok detail wise, it depends on how much you want to add, and the least I would add some seat belts.

would you happen to know what those colors names are in model master acryl or tamiya?

Here it is:

36118 Gunship Gray #4752 / Tamiya Field Blue XF50

36231 Dark Gull Gray #4755 / Tamiya Sky Grey XF19

36320 Dark Ghost Gray #4761

35237 Medium Gray #4746

For the last two I’m not aware of any Tamiya’s official equivalent and for the two others I’m using Model Master conversion chart but I’m not 100% sure that Tamiya Field Blue is the same color as Model Master Gunship Gray because I don’t have those colors.

Hope it does help though.

Thankyou

There are no direct Tamiya equivalents without mixing colors.

If you don’t want to mess with the intakes, Steel Beach Accessories makes a set of intake plugs. They also have a full cover set that includes covered nozzles, a HUD cover, and an AOA probe cover.

Actually, XF-50 Field Blue is not even in the same ball park. It’s far too dark and far too blue - it’s nearly in the same league as Tamiya’s XF-17 Sea Blue.

XF-24 Dark Grey is a much better match

Like I said I’m just going with the information I got from official source: Model Master’s “Modeler Technical Guide” (No.2020C)

In it there is some chart with the equivalent between MM and Tamiya but on more than one occasion I put serious doubt to it.

That is also why I switched from Tamiya to Model Master because their color selection is a lot bigger.
