I’m working at the Hobbytown USA in Trussville and I’ve got a customer that’s looking for a F-9F model. I’ve tried looking around and I’ve only been able to find a 1/72 scale from Hasegawa, but I remember Monogram making a kit of that aircraft.
Does anyone know where I might be able to find a kit to relay to my customer?
Well, I did some more looking around through Squadron Mail Order’s page and through our own database and actually found the Revell/Monogram 1:48 scale that we could order for them. Thanks!
Revellogram re-released the F9F as a special edition. It comes with a book and I think a patch. Before that, Both Revell and Monogram had the F9F. The Revell has been around for many years under different color schemes and had raised rivits and panel lines. The Monogram kit came out around 1990 and was a nice kit, except for the real scale buffs, the fuselage was too short and the front gear strut too small. This kit is the re-issued version that Squadron lists. I had bought the kit last summer in hopes to do another Toko-Ri display with it and a Hasagawa 1/700 kitbash Salvo Island.

If you want to go big, there’s a 1/32 model made by Fisher model & pattern. I think you can order it at www.fishermodels.com
If you like to see it beeing build, there’s a review in Wingmaster (september, october issue, number 42) It’s a very new model and it’s supposed to be very good.
FWIW, The old Revell kit is an F9F Cougar (swept wing) and the Revell/Monogram is the F9F Panther (straight wing). The Revell Cougar was the only game in town for 40 years or so, the new Hobbycraft releases should change all that. Also F-9F is the post-1962 designation for the Panther while F-9J is for the Cougar.
