I am in the process of accumulating materials to scratch build some 1/25 th scale armor and will need
a decent looking treadplate pattern for the turret basket floor plates.
My local Hobby Town has Plastruct Diamond Pattern treadplate labeled as 1/48th scale.
Plastruct’s online catalog lists:
DIAMOND PLATE
G (1:24) SCALE
CODE: PS-153
However, I have not seen examples in stores.
Has anyone recently seen good examples of Diamond Treadplate in 1/24th or 1/25th scale?
If so , who makes the product?
Unfortunately, there is a considerable difference in size and appearance between tread plate patterns supplied with the samples I have in my possession:
Revell 1/25th scale Peterbuilt truck and Tamiya 1/25th scale armor.
If you cannot find actual treadplate in styrene sheet, Archer makes dry transfers of the diamonds so you can add it to plain styrene sheets, though I don’t remember what scales they make it in.
I use Plastruct treadplate for 1/25th scale modeling. Their sizing is way off though. At one time their 1/48th scale chequerplate was identical to what AMT used on their firetrucks. They then called the same size stuff HO scale. You need to check it out at in person because if its off the web the sixing may not agree with the actual scale you want. The stuff they call 1/25th scale has diamonds that scale out to 2-3 inches.
Italeri has some chrome plated tread plate in thie truck accessories kit also
i dont know if he is still in business, but try Fred Resin Workshop. theres was pretty good. i used it on a 1/25 tractor trailer i did about 2 years ago and it is pretty good.
I was just checking one brand at a LHS ( don’t recall the name right now ) but the 1/24 version was dual diamond tread plate…can’t use it on WWII armor, I presume.
A 1/48th version looked better as far as spacing but the raised pattern was just elongated blobs. UGH!
I may ask Plastruct if they will send CADD ( DWG ) files for me to check as it appears I am just wasting money if I buy any diamond plate marked 1/24th scale.
i have one sheet left so i cant give it away, but try Don Mills , models 25-1 tread plate, the plate is a little thick but the diamond pattern is to scale
Been thinking of methods to make the tread plate as well.
Very good idea, Hans, but the method doesn’t sound as if it will make a diamond pattern tread plate.
I’ve tired making foil impressions of the small parts I have with diamond pattern tread plate and shifting the foil to enlarge the area of the impression.
Looks like that stuff was burnished onto plastic or fiberglass screen… Wire screen is what I’m talking about, and it should give you a pretty good tread-plate pattern if the foil is lightly burnished… That way only the “top” of each wire is transferred to the foil…
I got some on E-Bay very cheap and it was said to be 1/35th but upon recieving it ,it looked more in the 1/24-1/25th scale. Techstar was the name on the packaging, let me find it and I’ll shoot a pic or two next to a stainless rule.
II’mmm Baaacck.LOL Always liked sayin that. Heres the stuff.
If you can reproduce it as HVH thinks great please share it with all of us.Great idea HVH,even with one piece of the stuff I have,it possibly could be reproduced for personal purposes just as you stated with the screen Hans.

Well gotta run the bigfoot hunters are in northern Mn. and I’ll be darned if there aint a bit of a commotion outside right now, cripes its them theyve found me.LOL
but the nothing further so far regarding a manufacturer website.
I’ll do a further search, but will try the method Hans described first as being able to produce my own parts would be far more useful ; I am not dependant upon an uncertain supply.
Unfortunately, my digital camera doesn’t do very good macro photography so I’d post a description of my results.
Post again when ya get free of those Bigfoot hunters …[:D]
