white paint

I’m and advid airliner modeler and wonder if anyone would share their use of white for painting fueselages. I use Krylon white(found at Walmart). I layer about three light coats. Then I’ll use micro mesh polishing cloths, progressively until I get the smooth orange peel free look. I then use future or testors high gloss coat. A problem I’ve encountered is in the polishing. Sometimes I polish too much and the paint starts to show through. Not sure why. Perhaps I’m not starting with the correct grit or I haven’t put enough white coats. Thanks for any input

I personally like to use Testor’s Model Master Flat White Enamel through my Pashe H at about 20 psi. I spray on the first coat on the medium-heavy side. Than sand it down with a used nylon scouring pad. Than I spray a final coat of very fine diluted, thinned MM white. I will spot sand where enecessary with 1500 grit wet. Finnaly I put on a couple of coats of future.

I’ve found the Krylon White to be too thick and it tends to yellow. I also steer clear of airbrushing acrlics in white as they usually are not opaque enough.

My method is to have the plastic as smooth as possible, just like you are going to apply a natural metal finish. I prime with testors silver enamel and correct any flaws. If correction was needed I respray the silver primer, which should not be put on too heavy. My next coat is a white coat, and finally a coat of future. [:)]

Woody has it -
I do a lot of 1/144 airliners - the best method is a good quality flat white enamel. It covers well and you won’t have to apply heaps of coats.
Then, nail the plane with a couple of coats of Future. This will produce a glossy, hard finish for your decals. Easy.
