There are hobby glues specifically for clear parts. I use Pacer Formula “560” Canopy glue. You can find them at you LHS. Elmer’s Glue won’t work IMO.
Testors clear parts cement is excellent, dries clear as glass and is very strong. Aleene’s Tacky Glue is also great for clear parts and attaching pe.
Either Elmers glue will work, though I agree with PJ, Aleenes tacky glue is more versatile and gives a stronger bond.
I find white glue, especially those mixed specifically for glass areas, okay for canopies and anything that cannot fall inside the model, or can be easily replaced.
However, I no longer use it for windows for bombers and airliners, where windows are installed from inside fuselage. It just is not strong enough, and I have had too many windows pop loose and fall inside fuselage, after fuselage halves are assembled. Too late then.
I am now using one of those UV hardening glues. We have had a thread on that stuff in the Tools forum.
Thank you!
I’ve used both, though as the others have noted, there are other glues that will give you a stronger bond.
I prefer to use stryene glue to attach the canopy, though I’ll use white glue to fill gaps.
On some models like the :32 F-14, I’ll use the Elmers white glue all for attaching the canopy. No matter how carefully I try, I can’t seem to permanently keep dust from getting inside the large transparency. Hate that!!!
So the white glue gives enough strength to hold it fairly well, but when the inevitable dust finds it’s way in the, canopy just pops off with no damage, gets a cleaning, then reattached.
Not a practical way, if the model will be handled or moved sometimes.

Hi;
You can use anything you wish , But , I specifically use Aleen’s craft glue .It is great for canopies , dries clear and holds well . T.B.
I like Testors clear parts cement. I wait for the first bead to dry, then I apply multiple beads of the cement. I have not had a canopy or window pop off yet.
If you dip your clear parts in Future (Use that technique) then you can carefully use C/A without any problem creating a very strong bond. Particulary for inside windows on aircraft. I will then go back the next day and use a needle to place more C/A in the inside seam then let cure and touch up paint if needed.
I also have no problem with Elmers White Glue-All for canopies. They have strengthened their formula not that long ago. But again if “Futured”, then careful application of C/A is my first choice for canopies.
Always dry fit.
I’ll need to try the Future/CA technique.
