Hi Im new to the site though I have been lurking around for abit. I have a question about testors white decal paper. As you can see in the pic above, where my decal is on white it looks just fine. While on the blue its too transparent. Iv pondered about masking and painting white so that it wont be transparent as well as “doubling” the white decal. However I had a thought. Could I paint the decal itself white first before running it through my printer? Has anyone tried this method?
I had that problem with Testor’s white decal paper also, I think it’s just too frickin’ thin, and it also lovessssssss to fold over on itself and wrinkle so badly that making anything other than very small decals is extremely frustrating.
Well I ended up backing the wing decal with white paint. As for the tail I used a second decal for backing. Testors paper is great for panel lines. Even with two decal layers and a top coat of clear, I was still able to get rivet details using a setter.
Ether method works great, depending on the size of the decal. If the decal is large, you wont be able to get the white decal to lay down without it folding 2342514634342 times on itself. If that is the case you are better off masking off and spraying down a light color over the base paint.
