I just got a great deal on a Verlinden super detail set for a P-47 Jug. Now I need to get a 1/72 kit to pair it with. The box says to use it on a Hasegawa, but a little research on my part shows a range of opinion about those kits. Many seem to favor the two Tamiya kits. I don’t see why the detail kit shouldnt work for any of them (correct me if I’m wrong), but which one to chose?
Thanks for the input
The Tamiya kit is arguably the best P-47D kit in 1/72, but the interior is very good OOB so the Verlinden set wouldn’t add much detail & would likely not be worth the effort to fit it in. The Hasegawa kit is good, only lacking detail in the pit & wheel bays, & a lot less expensive than the Tamiya. Very nice 1/72 P-47D’s are also available from Academy & Revell.

Rick’s right -
The Tamiya offering is just about flawless - very good shapes (pretty accurate - unlike some others) and it just about falls together. They’re great.
The acadamy kit is really nice too, I was amazed at the detail and it’s cheap, so You could always use the detail kit on it.
I’ve built the academy and revel, they are both excelent, and only one third of the price of tamiya.
($AU)
I paid $9 for Revell, $12 for Academy (I’ve got another 3 unbuilt), and the tamiya is $29 @ same shop.
