Which model can i chosse to use as a SWAT armour vehicle ?

Which is the most easy to buy and get an armour vehicle for SWAT TEAMS ???

I’ve seen photos of police department owned M113 vehicles. I believe the last one I saw was an M106A2, an old mortar carrier. The old Tamiya M106A1 is a fairly common kit or you could grab just about any M113 on the market and have at it.

the ones ive seen are cadalac gage V150s
heres a command M113 http://www.macomb-sheriff.com/Pages/units/swat/newSWATTank.htm i think its called a M577 but im not sure if the numbers right

the tuscon swat team uses a M113

The first one is a command post carrier M577A2. It has been modified with “street friendly” rubber tracks and different sprockets. They look like the type that BMY was testing on some of their electric powered armor vehicles. Tamiya does an M577 but it is hard to find.

I can’t see photos of the Tuscon M113 to tell what variant it is. Most likely an M113A2. Academy makes this kit.

I’ve also seen some swat teams that used old WW II armord cars. the one i saw looked like a Greyhound with the turret removed and plated over. what variant was that?
I’ve also seen some tracked ones that looked like a M113 but was alot lower and had a round hatch in the back. Again, any help with the ID?

Just saw that amazon.com has a photo book on Police special operation vehicles for 14.95. the cover has what i think was the grandady to the 113.

If this is the book, it is a British APC, an FV432 or 436 . It is basically the Brit version of an M113-type APC. It is from the same time period as M113 and is still in use by Brit Army just like the M113 still is by US forces.

FV432:

The above described vehicle is an M114 Recon Vehicle. Only used for a few years in mid to late '60s and replaced in early '70s. Here are a couple of photos:

What about an M-20? I think I’ve seen a few of these painted blue and black before.

Many police agencies use the M113 here in America. Check out Tucson AZ. They use the M113 for their SWAT team.

The M20 seems to be a popular vehicle with several law enforcement agencies.

i think with the old M113s getting replaced with bradlys and strikers the police are getting the old M113s, so the SWAT teams are getting rid of there modified M20s and getting new stuff

i have read that some use the BDRM but i didnt find photos

Many still use the Cadillac-Gage ASV-150. Tampa, FL PD has a couple. Also, US Army is looking at bringing them back into service in Iraq as Convoy escort and Patrol vehicles for their great armored cabability. Here is one of the Tampa PD ones:

Only bad thing is that the only ASV-150 kit is a costly resin version. None in plastic.

Actually, Bradleys and Strykers are not replacing any M113s. Bradleys have been around since early '80s and Strykers are going to former Light Infantry (walk everywhere) BDEs. There have been a surplus of M113s for a long time. They have just recently been bought by police as the need for armored vehicles for SWAT Teams has been realized. This has mainly been since the '98 (I think) bank robbery incident in LA. Two heavily armed assailants wearing body armor ran around LA all afternoon shooting cops and civilians and could not be stopped till the LAPD went to gun shops and borrowed M16s and AKs to down the guys. Pretty sad. An armored SWAT vehicle would have been great there.

Probably right Arty. I still have a bunch of that on cd somewhere. Crazy stuff man.

Hey all,
L.A.P.D. used a couple 113s. Simi Valley (Ca.) P.D. used an old Armoured
Transport (That was the Company Name) Truck. For a model You could use the front of an International or Ford truck and build a box out sheet. I’d go with a 113 though as
all the V-100/150 kits are way expensive.
Good Hunting,

What about an LAV???
