This one is by far the best. One of Italeri’s best kits they ever made and superior to the 70s era Tamiya Leopards.
what pros does it have? and cons?
You would also need to take into consideration which Leopard variant you want to build. At the present time Tamiya’s A4 is the only one in production with the A3/A4 style sloped/spaced armour turret. At various times Italeri and Heller have made the same variant, but as far as I am aware, these kits are no longer in production. The Italeri 1A2 kit represents the “domed” turret.
As Above, it depends which variant you want to build, but many of the Italeri Kits are available from Revel Germany, with more versions 1A5 review : http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=130 2A6 Review: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/tamiya/tam35271.htm Jon UK
any version would be fine, just wanna build a leopard.
about the italeri kit, what pros and cons does it have?
Just pick the one you like the best… Tamiya over Italeri/Revel for ease of build… but Tamiya only do the 1,(oldest) 1A4, (nice) & Gepard, (nice) Aber do etch brass for the above… Every now & then I look at the etch, look at my leos, then put the brass away & go and lie down in a darkened room… The Tamiya Leopard 2A5/A6 is the better Leo2 Kit, if only for the running gear & fender ‘fiddliness’ of the Italeri Leo2’s If you really want a challenge… try & find the Engineer vehicles in resin… (g) lookup http://www.primeportal.net/apc/leopards.htm for just about every Leopard known to modeling man… Jon UK…
I am building the Revell which I understand is the rebox of Italeri’s kit of the Leo 1A5. It’s an amazing kit and has soo much detail it’s astounding. The only cons I see to this kit is the need to fill in some sink holes and ejector pin marks. THe insane part is the fact that the part numbers aren’t in order. You may spend about 1/2 an hour looking for part 76 because it’s not with the other 70’s but other than that, once I finish adding Maple Leaf Models conversion to a Canadian Leo C2 it’ll be almost exact! Rob’s right! Italeri’s is by far the best!
If the Revell Leopard 1 A1-A4 is the reboxed Italeri, I suggest going for that one, its a fantastic kit.
James,
If you can find yourself a copy of the most recent AFV Modeller, take a look. It has an article on a Leo converted to C1.
Buff… do you know what issue number it’s in? I saw it once before, but I haven’t been able to find it since. I looked all through my LHS’ issues, but not knowing what issue number it is hasn’t helped!
thats no problem, I grew up with the old Airfix models, which piece’s numbers arent in order in most of their kits. thanks for the help
