Which air brush to buy?

I am in the market for a new airbrush. I am seriously considering the Paasche VL or the Badger 150. I build mostly aircraft in 1/72 scale with a few 1/48, with a lot of them South East Asia camouflage or foreign camouflage like the middle east Migs, etc. Anyone have a recommendation between those two or something else? Why? [:D]

Thanks,

Darwin

I own a Pasche vl, an Iwata eclipse, and a thayer chandler Vega which is almost indentical to the badger 150(parts are inter changeable). I use the vega for 90% of my painting, and love it.

There are 100’s of similar threads on the Painting & Airbrushing Forum. You might want to peruse them or post your question there. That’s where all the AB Gods hang out.

I’ve had nothing but good luck with my Badger 150. But I know a ton of people that swear by Paasche. Passche AB’s definately have more maintenance-friendly features that I was unaware of when I first got my 150. But, then again they are more expensive. I’d recommend going to the LHS and “feeling” them out in person and see which one YOU think you’ll feel comfortable with. They will both do what you want with practice. Let us know which way you voted once the ballot’s cast![:)]

I personaly would buy a badger 360 duel action airbrush, it’s a very reliable brush and easy to maintain with not that heafty of a price tag, I use one and have never had any problems with it.

Have you considered an Iwata Eclipse? It is the first airbrush I have bought and have found it very versatile. Price-wise it can seem high, but every once in a while you run across a decent sale.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, most LHS in my area are biased towards Badger. Dont get me wrong, Badger makes great airbrushes, but when you’in the market for one, you want to have as many options as possible in order to pick the perfect one. I’d suggest going to an artist supplies store which usually have more selection of brands.

Check out the Badger 155. I have a 150 but if the 155 had been availible at that time I would have bought it as my first brush. I also have a 360 and really like that.

Hi ,Darwin!
If you’re into modern 1/72,a Badger 150 with fine tip, is very good value.
If you want something better, an Iwata or Badger 100XF is a must.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for all the advice. I took Swanny’s advice and checked out the ad for Dixie Art Supply in New Orleans. They have excellent prices. I wound up ordering a Badger 155. Now all I have to do is learn how to use it. I had a Badger 350 a few years ago until my son appropriated it and then I bought an Aztec set, with which I have been extremely unhappy. Thanks again, [:D] [8D] [bow] [bow]
