where to buy metal mesh for 1/32 scale?

I have been unable to locate metal mesh for use on 1/32 scale to use on intakes/grills on WWII aircraft. Does anyone know of a mail order source for mesh used for this type of construction?

I’ve used nylon stockings in the past in 1/48 scale. I suspect they would work fine in 1/32 as well as long as the area isn’t too large.

I use a copper mesh that’s sold in arts & craft stores for making all kinds of things… It’s as fine as any nylon in grid-size and comes in a sheet that’s about 18 x 24 inches… Costs around 9 bucks… I’ll never buy screens from a hobby shop again… I got enough “intake screens” to last about a lifetime, lol…

Lemme get back to you with the brand-name of the stuff…

Hardware store…plumbing department…screens for sink aerators…most full service stores have it in small sheets both brass and stainless.

I use metallic ribbon from Arts and Craft stores like Michaels. They are cheap, easy to cut and great for replicating grills and screens. They’re also available in a variety of colors to simulate gold, brass, silver if you’d rather not paint them. Here’s an example of what I mean:

Got this from a guy in our local club: Go to any discount retailer and look for a “permenant coffee filter” they come in either the cone type or basket type. Both have a fine metal mesh that is easily cut with scissors and cost about 4 bucks. There is enough mesh on the basket type to do several models.

What all the other guys have said works. I have an old plastic-mesh tea strainer which has furnished me 1/72 grilles for many, many, years now. Also, you could try the model railway section of a decent hobby shop, if you have one near you. They often have etched brass grilles for ‘OO’ and ‘HO’ gauge model diesel and electric locos, for not much money. You can cut these to size, One of these should give you enough material for two or three 1/32 models.

Cheers,

Chris.

I use pipe screens from a local discount cigerette store. Same size as a sink airator, but you get 5 screens for 35 cents. Any tobacco supply store should carry them.
