i dont know mate , we use it all the time , still dont know where it came from , had a good ryhme though , in the 70’s in the uk a guy called terry/tony jacks had a song called seasons in the sun i got to no 1 in the charts , but the kids at school changed the words ‘’’ we had joy we had fun flicking bogies at the sun , when the sun got too hot the bogies turned to snot ‘’‘’

That’s hilarious!! LOL

Which word?

Bogey as in bogey man.
Bogey as in bogey wheel.
Bogey as in one over par.
Bogey as in spectre or phantom.
Bogey as in a bogey cart or wagon.

They all have relatively different origins. Although some are similar.

Or maybe Bogey as in a unidentified plane? I saw the origins of that one on Mail Call I think about a year ago or so. Just can’t remember what it was now.

C’mon I’m talking about bogey:blip on the radar, enemy aircraft.

Copy?

What they said on Mail Call was as follows to the best of my memory…

Bogey is a reference to an unidentified aircraft that is presumably hostile. Its counterpart is bandit which is used to refer to a known hostile aircraft.

Bogle is an old Scottish word for ghost, often spelled bogy, bogil, bogie, etc. The term dates at least to 1505, and is the source for our modern bogeyman or boogieman. It is akin to the Middle English bugge, meaning scarecrow, which survives to this day in bugbear.

That does ring a bell Madda.

Glad I could help out!! Having a good memory for useless trivia really comes in handy sometimes. [:)]

Good lookin’ out maddafinga.

Excellent description.

Out

Webster’s web site is similar to what Josh said.
It says it is probably derived from the word “Bogle” for which Webster’s gives the following:

Etymology: origin unknown
dialect British : GOBLIN, SPECTER; also : an object of fear or loathing

Mike

That’s what I remember from Mail Call too.

in the uk bogie / bogey means 2 things ,1train bogies what the axles are on , 2 inside your nose you know the little green things you pick

And in golf, a bogey is one over par for the hole, two over par is a double-bogey, three over par is a [censored][censored][censored][banghead][banghead].
