Alright, this is a weird one, but I need to find a source for some 1:72-ish Skeleton figures for a diorama build.
Every now and then I get a really weird idea for a diorama and I just have to make it. My current bizarre project- the battle from “Army of Darkness”. This scene, in particular. I found the car (a diecast from Corgi) at Goodwill, and got the idea to modify the car, and set it up on a small wooden base to look like Bruce Campbell’s machine from the movie. I’ve done some preliminary work on the mods for the car, and thanks to some foam bits and a heated foam cutting tool, I’m confident I can put that all together. I’ve got a Italeri figure for Bruce. Seems like all the tricky parts are covered.
However, I’ve hit a wall. I’ve been looking around for skeleton figurines in the 1:72-ish range, and they are pretty much impossible to find. I found some “zombie Pirates”, but they’re a little pricey, and only about a third of those are even up to being modified. Likewise, there are some figures from some games out there, but as this is a goof project, I really don’t want to drop $10-$30 on one figurine. I’m hoping there’s some manufacturer I haven’t checked, or haven’t heard of that sells them, and I figured you guys would be the most knowledgeable people to ask.
Thank you all in advance for any help, guidance, or ideas in this one! I will post some pictures when I get the build started in earnest.
I think you were on the right track with the “Gaming” miniatures. If any genre would have them that would be it.
I was big into D&D back in the 80’s. I know for a fact “Grenadier”, Ral Partha" and others made skeletons in 15 and 25 mm because I had some. I remember using a paint called “bone” on them that looked really good. Check ebay.
Also in the last year or so I saw a “skeleton army” in the toy section at one of the dollar stores. These were “army men” plastic and about 15-25 mm. They looked pretty darn good too.
You might want to check out games-workshop. They have a few boxed sets of skeletons for a couple of their armies. Your best bet would be the figures for the Tomb Kings army. The price isn’t too bad either. knox
You are right Gamera. GW figures would be too large for 1/72. My mistake. PVI, i’m going to my LGS tonight and will look to see if they have any small scale bones. knox
WOW! Thanks for all the leads guys! I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely pursue those links, and see what I can find for the gaming figures locally. There’s still one local source I’ve yet to check, so fingers crossed. Thank you all so much, you guys rock!
