Where are all the aerobatic prop plane models??? Post links!

I love flying RC aerobatic planes like the Extra 300L, especially practicing 3D stunts. I wish there were more civilian model planes around, specifically Extra, Pitts, Sukhois, etc. Does anyone know of anybody making such kits in 1/32 or larger scale? I would really like to build one!!! These kind of kits are super popular in the RC world but dont get enough attention in the plastic modeling world…

Please post links if you know where to find these aerobatic plane models.

Thanks,

Greg

Civilian aircraft are always hard to find. But there is a manufacturer that specializes in large scale prop aerobatics planes, they are called Airshows Models.

Here is a link of some revies

Thanks RemcoGrob for the link, looks like a nice kit! I’d love to build one of those. Unfortunately it looks like Airshows Models is out of business. Does anyone know an online shop that sill sells their kits?

Howdy Greg,

Platz had some aerobatic planes, but they appear to be OOP at the moment. They should still be in the shops, though! I think I’ve seen them around.

Here’s the Platz link, look about halfway down:

AModel from Poland has some as well in 1/72. These are short run kits and can be a little rough. They have the Pitts Special and Yak-50 among their line. Squadrom mail Order and Great Models both handle their kits.

Planet did a 1/32 kit of the Jungmeister in 1/32, and it is pretty nice.

Wonderful! Thanks guys for your ideas! You’ve got me excited!!!

I think they also did a Christen Eagle.

There is also an older but nice kit of the Pitts S-2A made by LS in 1/72.

Gaijin: Unfortunately Airshowmodels is no longer in business but they did have some very nice kits. I produced the construction manuals for the company; twelve pages in full colour digital photos of the construction sequences. If you want to drool over these go to my website http://www.barneysairforce.com…I have construction articles on all of the kits

A very long time ago, Revell had a kit of Bob Hoover’s bright yellow P-51 Mustang stunt plane. I built it when I was a kid (this was back in the seventies). It’s long out of production, of course, but you might find one at a model kit swap meet or even on e-bay.
