When I made my last plastic model, there was no World Wide Web!

Hey folks, I’ve just come back to plastic modelling for the first time since the Wall fell. Super happy to have joined this forum! I’ve been collecting models forever (almost all 1/72 scale), painting wargames figures in heaps, and larding in military board games and history books by the metric ton, but modelling fell by the wayside for a minute. Semi-retirement and first grandkids on the way has spurred me back to old and fondly remembered habits. Had great fun this week making a 1/72 Pz II, slopping on some paint, and then BAM - one of the stupid, evidently glue resistant tracks broke, and spirits sagged. Briefly. If anyone has wisdom on where to get replacement 1/72 Pz II tracks, I’m asking for a friend  and if not, it’s on to the next one, a StuG IIIE and a more gingerly approach to rubber tracks! Appreciate being here and all the amazing stuff I’ve been finding!!

Welcome! Looking forward to seeing your builds.

Welcome to FSM! As Tojo72 reports, tracks can be had (for just about anything).

Thanks Tojo72! I’d searched a bunch of those, but found every one out of stock or back order. And the ACE set in a few places said ‘discontinued’. Will keep my eye on one or two, and maybe (here we go!) just buy a second kit. “It is the way!”

DeanO, welcome to the FSM forum and to scale modeling. I also returned to the hobby later in life but you have a wonderful resource in this forum. Good luck with your future projects.

Thats the spirit! Getting “attched” to your hobby is what makes it fun.

Welcome to the forum.
Similar story here. Back into model building again after a long time away.
My first project back was a tank as well - Border’s “Tesla Tank” from the Red Alert C&C game series.

My project here:

A sci fi subject but I’m certain they reused the hull, drive train and tracks from one of their excellently detailed models of real world tanks. Anyway point is I broke a lot of stuff during that build. I had to repair and fabricate several key parts by literally thinking outside the box.
Copper wire of different gauges either with or without insulation, aluminum bushings, nylon thread, etc from The Drawer of Random Junk.
Without seeing exactly how your track broke I can’t be specific but think about one of these two options:
Position the break in the track’s broken ends around the spokes of the drive wheel to take the stress and lace the glue-resistant track ends together with fine wire or nylon thread. There’s probably a position where the repair will be hidden under the hull flange enough to get by.
Another option with any broken part is to just own it. Incorporate it into the build as damage. Tank tracks broke in the field and had to be repaired or replaced. Showing your panzer having thrown a track and breaking a link might be a way to add some interest to the work.

Good luck with whatever you try.

Welcome back! It’s a fine and fun hobby to return to, so many options and opportunities for creativity, you’ll be glad you did.
