This diorama was made way back in 2006. It did well in local contests and showings. My idea was to show the desperation of that first big winter the Germans faced on their rapid move east. The dio is pretty simple, showing the wrecked/abandoned Tiger which was headed eastward in the spring, when hit and run off the road. Now, in the fall, the behemoth is being passed by desperate soldiers headed westward just trying to survive.
The tank is Tamiya.
The pulling soldier from Stalingrad Miniatures.
The wounded guy is just a Hornet head with tissue formed to replicate a body under the tarp.
The base is scratch built.
Youâve definitely nailed theâwow, itâs freezing out hereâ effect. From the branches, and shrubbery thatâs been frost/snow covered.. AND the snow stuck to the fence. What kind of snow did you use?.
That is an amazing diorama. I started wondering what the relationship between the two soldiers would be to cause the one to drag that heavy sled across the frozen terrain. Great work!
The snow is a combination of white rattle can primer sprayed from a distance and Woodland Scenics âSnowâ (micro-balloons)
Thanks for the comment and question.
Cheers,

Outstanding job, @creading, I love the snow.
This is one of those rare dioramas that makes you âfeelâ the action/setting thatâs presented in the scene. Whatâs so special is that you accomplished that with only two figures and one vehicle.
You have captured the essence of brotherhood and camaraderie in the despair of war. The cold effect of the snow is quite evident, and you have done a fantastic job. My only concern is what you wrote in your narrative, and it consists of your timeline. Beyond that, this is a magnificent piece of work.
I still canât get over the soldier in the sled. His face really shows his pain.
