A good, happy (and reflective) Memorial Day weekend to all.
I know this question has been put on this board before (I searched it), but the thread I turned up was from 2005. There are a lot of us FNGs since then, so here goes again:
What’s your favorite plane? Not what’s your favorite model kit, but simply your favorite plane, all-time? I’m talking aesthetics here, gents. I can see there could be a legitimate divide between recips and jets, so let’s open those two categories. Since I put the question, please allow me to go first …
In spite of the fact I have only naval aircraft, plus sea-and-float planes on deck and on the elevators right now, my favorite all time recip is the P-40, all variants. Yep, the 'hawks just look like an airplane to me, i.e., what an airplane should look like. Always has, since way back when I was a pup. (In fact, think I’ll put one on the shelf next time I score styrene! [8-|])
As for jets, the A-5 Vigilante does it for me. What does it for all y’all?
You’re a good man, redraider56. I feel guilty admitting I favor the A-5 when my military time was spent working on F-4B’s and J’s. The F-4J has to be my all-time sentimental favorite, being the jet I went with into combat. The Vigilante remains my all-time favorite aesthetically, however. Just looks like a jet should look to me (don’t tell my Spooky friends …[whstl])
lucky enough for me i can put both my favorite prop and jet plane into the same category and go with the big stick, that’s right the B-36 peacemaker. four burnin, and six turnin. I love most of the planes from that transition era of the early cold war, but the B-36 is my hands down favorite.
