What's the problem?

Is there one? I assume there is since I see Revell or Monogram dissed from time to time. What’s wrong with them?

Just curious.

Some people are just snobs about kits. If it is not shake & bake from the Far East they don’t like the kit. We had the Monogram Mafia GBs here as a tongue in cheek response to that attitude here, but unfortunately the Don of our Familia seems to have gone the way of Jimmy Hoffa. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of us die hard Revellogram fans on here to defend their honor.

Cool. I was afraid that I might have begun a small war. Glad to hear it’s no biggie.

Especially since everything in my stash is either one or the other.

I’ve won or placed 2nd or 3rd plenty of IPMS contests with my Revellogram builds since 2007. It’s all in the builder. And other folks on here have made some gorgeous builds as well… Where did this new war start??

Nothing wrong with them. We all have our favorite kits. Sometimes its Monogram, sometimes its not. Haven’t seen that attitude here for quite awhile. You must have dug up some old posts.

It is old posts. I have been trying to get caught up on things and just noticed a hint here and there. Frankly I’ve never been less than pleased with R/M. I know there are inconsistacys but growing up as an AFBrat, I always thought the inconsistacys were part of a “loose lips” attitude like specs on the SR71 saying maxspeed 2.5 mach(+) or the tail planes on the F-86 showing elevators where there were none (the entire control surface rotated).

I would guess from talking with people on here that it is one of those 5%-90%-5% deals

5% post that they would only build Hasegawa/Tamiya/Fujimi/etc,5% call those same kits “Shake-n-Bake” and would only build Revell/Monogram,and the 90% in the middle will build Revell, Fujimi or Starfix kits if they come in Shakers/Resin/Vac/mainstream injection or limited Run injection

I know I don’t “get” the “anti this or that” deal,in my collection, if I want an XF5U, it is going to be Hasegawa, and if I want an F8F it is either the Monogram or the newer Sword kit (it is both in my case, too many decals to be too picky)

I do wonder if any of the people that consider a 1/72 Hasegawa Tomcat kit to be a “Shake-n-Bake” have ever really figured out just how long to shake the darned things,it must be a pretty long while, lol

Well, of course Monogram is gone, now, but I still build Revell. LIke any of the model companies, they have occasionally turned out some turkeys, but in general I think most of their kits are good values. At the other end of the scale are the Eastern European kits. Their only saving grace is that they are low volume and hence turn out kits that are of interest to only a few builders.

The latest Revell kits I have bought have some awesome modeling detail- fully state of the art. Another in the same class are the newest kits from Airfix!

I have always felt Revell of Germany kits are really top notch and when I see a new kit from them of a subject I want, I have no qualms about buying it without reading any reviews first.

I agree… I’m a card carrying MONOGRAM Mafia dude… all Kits have a place in the modeling world… I enjoy them all…[:D]

PS… any word or knowledge of HVH ??? …[:^)]

that’s interesting. i, apparently, have no favorites. looking at what i have built this year it is tamiya, afv club, hobbyboss, trumpeter, cyberhobby, dragon/dml, revel, monogram, and italeri. i seem to have a lot of trumpeter and hobbyboss vehicles because they do most of the PLA and JGSDF stuff.

Not sure the OP is referring to Revel of Germany.

Either Revell, from what I was getting from those OOOOOOooooooollllldddd posts.

A few years back there were some folks on here that were hardcore haters of Revellogram and would constantly say bad things about them… so I started this thread

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/134679.aspx

Then came the Monogram Mafia GBs. I think we have laid those issues to rest. And the guys who had those attitudes either toned down or moved on. But we have had fun along the way. I still see a LOT of the same attitude on other websites, but hey, I will still help keep my old freinds in business,

Nice thread. Saw some great ideas… Thanks.

Thanks for the old thread Stik,Some good memories.

I would never disparage anyone who wants to build any kit, whether it’s for the challenge,or for the satisfaction, whatever,I think it’s great as the above thread shows.Just don’t say I’m just an assembler,or not a real modeler if I happen to build a Tamiya,or don’t scratchbuild my own parts.

My first model ever was a 1/72 Revell F4U (48 years agoI still have it, but, it is in Restored Condition to honor an online friend),my most built tooling ever was the 1/72 Revell Phantom, I had 13 of them built up at one time in my life, in the seventies or early eighties or so,still have 1 of those left that didn’t turn into a “frito chip bowl shape”,and 8 more to build someday. I used to buy Revell 4 pack boxes of them, the 12 that went away warped because I hadn’t started bracing them yet at that time, the one I tried the bracing on is still with me, around 30 years old

Hey Stik…I think you’d make a good Dom! Just saying!

I’d love to see a Monogram Mafia GB! Hey P38, how does one get a card for the Monogram Mafia! I’m Sicilian, does that help? [;)]

As for loving one model or another…I love them all! The cheaper the better of course, but I have just about every one from the what I think are “lesser” quality (Starfix), all the way up to Trumpy’s (if they are considered the “top of the line”). I just like modelling! I grew up and cut my teeth on Monogram and Revell (all I could afford…only so many lawns to mow in my neighborhood!). So I love seeing a Mono or Revell kit in my stash! As a matter of fact, I just bought 49 kits from an estate sale on-line and a lot of them are Mono/Revell. Got some Tamiya, Trumpy, Airfix, etc. And can’t wait to see my not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR 1/48 F-100’s from Monogram!!! Sorry, got a little excited there. [:$]
