What's the best Paint Booth ?

I am looking to pick one up so that I can stop breathing paint fumes. I was going to go with an Artograph or a Passche. I will stick the duct outside a window when in use but to be honest here in FL it seems like it’s raining everytime I work on my models. Since the room I work from faces south the wind often is blowing the rain into the window. I the event it’s raining I will not be sticking the duct out the window. I heard the Artograph can run well ductless since it has 3 filters. Any ideas or suggestions on these two?

Thanks,

Anthony

Hey Anthony

Do a search of spray or paint booth. If that doesn’t get you what you need, post this over the piant and airbrush section and you will get some responces.

Depending what you have available to you in terms of materials and tools, you can build a paint booth for far less than it costs to buy one. There are a lot of threads out there that offer a step by step on how to do it (here and at other sites - Check Armorama and Missing-lynx).

There was a thread recently on paint booths, a bit of arguing back and forth about brands. After all that I ended up making my own, I just found for the money I could build a better booth, than I could buy. I made a 24x20 booth for about $200. I have about 3x the fan similar sized and much more expensive booths had.

There were some booths with charcoal filters that were supposed to allow you to vent into the room. I was going outside so that wasn’t a factor for my decision.

I built Mine for about $50. Plywood and a bathroom exhaust fan, works just great [:)]

On a dutch modeling forum there is a pdf on how to build your own booth using MDF board, a kitchen exhaust machine and some DIY market build-in spotlights. Rather cheap but very effective and you can build it in the morning, use it in the afternoon:

Hope it helps you further even though it’s in dutch ofcourse…

Build it…a 2 x 2 x 2 box with lights and a good size duct fan…better than anything you can buy and with the money you save…put in an air compressor system for the air brush.

The best way to go!!

Rounds Complete!!

Thanks for all the input everyone! Certainly plenty of food for thought

If you do make your own, Grainger is a great source for the recommended style (shaded pole blower aka squirrel cage) fans. I had my fan delivered to my doorstep within 24 hours of ordering.

Thank you for the advice and the attached links. I am going to take a look at them right now

Got mine from Pace paintbooths. Awesome stuff! [tup] Yeah you could make one, but this is great if you don’t want to eingeneer something. Good hunting!
