Whos got what for these two planes? Any recommendations?
Hi, Breezely!
I don’t know the total list of what’s available, but here’s what I’ve built:
Monogram 1/48 MiG-29
Revell 1/32 MiG-29
Mini Hobby Models 1/48 Su-37
They all have their problems (what kits don’t?), but they all build into fine models.
Best bet is to go to www.squadron.com and do a search, see what comes up. They carry kits, decals and aftermarket accessories. Also try www.meteorprod.com for decals and aftermarket.
Italeri /Zvezda of russia.
the Su-37 looks impressive in the box. gonna have it soon so i will post again.
Here’s what I know about MiG-29 kits:
1/72
Revell: Made both single and two seat variants. The single seat one was probably the first Western made kit of the 29 and shows the innacuracies to prove it.
Italeri: Also made single and two seat versions on a somewhat later time scale than Revell.
Aeroteam: A Czech outfit released a single seat 29 stated to be limited edition and packaged in a bag. The moldings were rough, low pressure injection type with a ton of flash. The decals were well printed and represented a Slovak version from the early 1990s.
Zvezda: Very rough kit to say the least.
Airfix: another early Western attempt to represent the 29.
Hasegawa: I believe they have both single and two seat 29s in their catalog.
1/48 kits:
Academy: I’ve heard they’re basic but generally accurate in shape, both single and two seat 29s are produced by Academy.
Monogram: This kit was the first 29 kit produced by a Western manufacturer and was created totally from photographs. Innacuracies abound. Verlinden made at least one aftermarket accurizing kit for it, but I understand that didn’t quite correct everything.
KP: Another Czech company. I’ve seen the kit in the box and built and it generally looks good.
1/32 kits
Revell: This is the only 1/32 scale 29 I know of and its old. It’s been re released at least once by Revell Germany.
Hope that helps
