Whats is the best A7 Corsair II kit?

Ive always liked the A7 and would like to do one in SEA camo with markings for a squadron from Myrtle Beach Airforce base in the Vietnam war. So which kit would be the best to do this in 1/48 scale?

I did the Hasegawa kit some years ago and it was a good kit.I’m not sure how it stacks with the newer kits, but Hasegawa kits are usually good stuff, and this was a fairly trouble free build.

I hear that Hasegawa’s is supposed to be good… But honestly, I don’t know.

I built this one several years ago.

It’s the Hasegawa kit in 1/48. It’s a very good kit. No problems that I can remember.

You have both the Hasegawa and HobbyBoss to choose from… Each are very nice kits all around but the HobbyBoss kit gives you more of a weaons selection…

However with looking at the two and the prices, I’d go with Hasegawa… It’s a great kit once built up!1

What is that exact kit number? Are those decals included?

My vote would go to the Hasegawa kit as well. Built one, have another stashed. Also have the Hobbyboss kit(got it on sale from Squadron.com for $15!!!)The only differences that I can tell(haven’t built the H/B yet) aside from ordnance, is the wing assembly. Hase’s wing is three parts(2 bottom halves and a single top including top of fuse, with seperate wing tip parts for the wing fold option). The H/B wings are seperate and attach to the fuse sides, without the wingfold option. I also believe the H/B kit has some shape issues around the nose and intake, if that sort of thing bothers you. Both fuse’s have the same open electronics bays.

Hasegawa is probably the best bet for the money. The Hobbyboss kit also look nice but are even more pricey. I tackled the old ESCI kit for the same build but it needs a LOT of work to bring it up to speed.

I think it is P13. Yes the Myrtle Beach decals came with it.

I recall seeing a thread around here somewhere (or at some point), where the Hase and HB efforts were compared side by side.

The HB kit has more issues (shape and scale)… that cannot be fixed (but I am open to correction on this)…

How about the armament? Do you get any bombs with the Hasegawa kit or do you have to buy the weapons set separately?

Eric

You don’t get any ordnance in the Hasegawa kit. 300 gal. fuel tanks are the only thing you can hang on the pylons in the kit. [:'(]

Just on principal alone, I think I’ll get the HobbyBoss kit. How can Hasegawa have an attack plane with no weapons? What a rip-off!

Eric

I’d go with Hobbyboss. I had the A-7A and it had more weapons that it could hold. Grab a Hasegawa kit also and use the extra Hobbyboss ordnance.

The H/B mk 82 bombs look kinda silly. Too skinny, but the other stuff looks OK, but to me, an A-7 just doesn’t look right without MERs LOADED with mk 82s. Luckily, I’ve got enough mk 82s in the spares box and other kits to load out both my kits!
