Whats in those boxes

We all all have them. Those boxes filled with leftovers. Mine go back to the beginning. When I look through them for a little bit or thimgajimie, I can’t help but reminiesce. I see a skip bomb from an avro lancaster painted silver with a paint brush. I was luckey enough that my parents bought me subscription to the model of the month club. I could hardley wait for my next model.I’d crank one out in about two days.

I have almost all the pieces from the first issue of the flying sub. I can’t seem to throw out any old kit . Monogram armor? Yep,I got those too, even one original box .It still has the sprues and extra equipment that I did’nt use.Lots of model car wheels (one whole box),

Airplanes? Mine gott. Bombs, missles ,wings, landing gear, pilots, canopies, racks, seats you get the idea. I didn’t have much money for paint back then and if I did save some I would buy another kit. Most of these pieces are not painted, and some bombs and missles have never been cut from their “trees”(there’s an old term).

Just had one more thought, My first model bench is out in the garage with a bunch of boxes and stuff piled up on it. It still has all the old cuts and paint blobs on it. Just can’t seem to throw any of thse things away. Keep on gluing …

I had to thin the herd from time to time. Best idea I had was to take them to the club meeting and let folks take what they want. I still have three double kit NASCAR boxes full of parts.

I have computer paper boxes full of car bodies and frames, aircraft and ship parts, and misc. stuff. Have one of those metal boxes with dozens of drawers full of engines and misc. parts. Another one full of watch and clock parts and all kinds of misc. odds and ends that I’ve kept “in case” I can use them for something. As emelen said I just can’t throw them away.

LOL! Same here. I have one of those multi drawer storage things with all the parts I never used! Enough bombs to wipe out a small country, and enough figures to replenish the bombed country! I too have parts that are from my early years. The engine from my very first model…a Cessna 180! The Testors tube glue has changed colors about 3 times on it (and trust me, I left enough on it to see!) and I’m almost afraid to touch it, but it’s still there! I can’t seem to get rid of anything either…seems to be a reoccurring theme here. [:^)]

Armour, ship, auto, aircraft parts not used in a build are added to a Sci-Fi parts bin for possible use as greebly in a Sci-Fi scratch build.

My wife and I are throw-outers,not much of anything accumulates around us.I just have one medium size box of spare parts figures, and decals

Wow, I hope to have that many parts as time goes on. I have only just begun and I find there some parts that could be used in a build or not. As I get better at building, I hope to work on some off the wall designes that I have dreamt of.

Right now all I is extra parts from 2 models.

I’m pretty good about not having too much stuff around (parts wise), but I still have and use the drawing board my dad made me as a kid out of plywood and a leather strip for a handle. It still has all my old scribbles and glue blobs on it too. That sucker is going on 30 years old.

I still have some of the decals from some early Revell F/A-18s I built, from the squadron I didn’t use.

The oldest thing I have sitting around are some of the small square Testor’s paint bottles, from when my dad was a kid. They actually have 15 cents stamped on the top of the lid! Not sure if I can actually get them open, but the paint looks good!

I have loads of spares as well. When the spares boxes are as many as the stash, I will consider thinning it out. Most is kept organized to some extent. Never know when you or someone else will need a particular part or decal for an old kit. I have been able to help several people out on this forum by having the odd parts just lying about. For that reason alone it is worth keeping the spares tucked away.

Anybody wouldnt happen to have a 1/72 b-17f or c-47 propeller they’d be willing to part ways with

I wonder if the show “Hoarders” has ever done an episode on us modelers? Hmmmmmmm…

Now I would enjoy watching that one!

I don’t have many, so I still have my boxes. Directions are inside, along with any leftover parts that I didn’t use. At some point I’ll combine all the parts. The directions usually have notes for the specific colors I’ve used so I can duplicate in the future if necessary. I like the artwork…I don’t need the boxes, but I’d like to keep the covers some how. And I know there’s a thread on here somewhere about that…
