Looks as though I am doing another build for a veteran LOL This time- it’s one of my wife’s patients. Whenever she finds out someone is a veteran, she finds out info for me-- always looking out for me she is [;)] Anyways-- he was a ball turret gunner in a 17F and I am thinking of building one up for him- just was wondering if there were any available or if I should just go buy the Monogram El Lobo II…
The old Revell kit is the only B-17F in 48th. It’s similar to the Monogram kit in many respects, but not as refined. It’s decent, but that’s about it. Like with any kit, though, it can be a real gem with some extra work.

The Revell - Monogram Kit is the only game in town.
A nice build BTW… you may enjoy it.

Thanks Steve and Brett…
Now if I can only find it… no joy at Scale Hobby or Squadron… Great Models is taking preorders?? Is it being reissued?? Hmmm…who else to check…maybe evilbay
Checked a couple other online shops and nada. Both the Revell and Monogram kits will undoubtedly continue to be reissued in the future; it’s always a bit of a wait but they’ll be around. If you’re in a rush, then evilBay may be a good bet. But, of course, you’re most likely gonna pay big time. Your only other chance may be at a show or maybe you could post over on Hyperscale.
Here’s a couple links that may interest you and which may help when it comes time to build you Fort:
1/48 Revell B-17F Build Article - This article involves a bit of a kitbash of the two kits as well as some extra detailing.
1/48 Revell B-17F Review - This is an in-box review of the Revell kit on ARC by some guy named Matt Swan. [:p] There’s also links at the bottom for his conversion of the kit to a B-17E.

Blackwolf is correct and references some good sites. Check this page http://www.swannysmodels.com/Allied.html for the box review of the F as well as the build review and some accessory reviews.
Thanks guys…I’ve bookmarked them all…there is no rush to be honest as I haven’t even spoken to the man yet. My wife initaiily talked with him and got him to bring in some of his stuff-- a video and a book on the Lucky Bastards club which he is very proud to be a member of…
I want to see if he’s OK with me building one for him first…
jeeves keep us informed. a friend asked me to research for a specific b-17 but did not give me much to work with. only the name “maryanne”. i will be looking forward to your build so i can help him with his.

Hey joe…
Try posting at these sites…that’s what I have done:

The more info you have, the better than can help you-- but these guys are pretty amazing. I know also that Keyworth had an extensive collection of resources to find this stuff out as well…he has offered to help me out, and these message boards gave me great stuff as well…with only knowing his bomb group and bomber name, I ended up getting the serial number, fuselage code, and basic paint scheme…I am hoping between Keyworth and these guys to find a photo or two to go by as well.
try looking at the local hobby shops ive got my B-17G at a hobby shop and now have all the photo etch sets for it as well
