Hey everyone-
So I’m setting up for an airbrush marathon this weekend, but I wondered if I could get some advice on a good Gold color, something that sprays smoothly, but still looks realistic…I’ve used Tamiya Gold Leaf, and it looks good, but usually I have to brush it on to get a smooth coat…it seems to NOT like being airbrushed, comes out like spatter and gives me a hard time, unless I thin it, but then it’s too thin…And I’ve used Testors Model Master Acrylic Gold, and it sprays like a dream, but the color isn’t right…too muted, and blah…
Any suggestions??
Thanks!
David
Alclad makes gold, but I always use testors enamel
Also, for a true gold leaf, use gold leaf. It’s available in most art stores and not expensive. The 11 carat is silver colored and the 22 carat is gold colored. They sell the sizing too. The gold will stick down wherever the sizing is, so if you apply that carefully with appropriate masking, it looks great.
Yeah…I guess if I want a realistic gold color, I’m going to have to avoid water-based…I’ll probably just get some enamel Gold paint today, and try it out…
Definitely like the results of oil-based enamel for the gold…

I’m chiming in late, but I find Floquil som eof the best IMHO.
Thanks, Jake! People do seem to like the Floquil paints…
I went ahead and used some Model Master enamel…the pic above shows the results…looks WAY better than any water-based I’ve seen.
