What's a good paint scheme for canvas sails?

Also, what’s the best way to simulate the shading effect and bring out the volume of the sail? I was considering mixing the base color with a darker brown or gray and then airbrushing the sail from the “bottom” direction to create shading. Does anyone have any suggestions on which specific colors to use?

I use tamiya Buff, it’s acrylic but I put a few drop of acetone to dull it down. Floquil Antique white is a good shade too. Never use white unless you plan on staining or weathering them.
