What time of the year do you get the most modeling done?

Got the day off today and was looking out the window at the cloudy, windy and 25 degree vista out there, when the thought “The modeling season is here” (it was sunny and 78 day before yesterday) flitted through my head - After 34 years of marriage, I find I do the majority of my modeling in the winter - Think about it, aren’t short dark days and long dark winter evenings, with cold temps, rain/sleet/snow, crappy tv, warm modeling room, with Bach/Brahms/Wagner (or the Stones/Led Zepplin/AC/DC, depending on my mood) on the stereo more conducive to married bliss and piece of mind than a warm 78 degree day w/light breezes, no clouds, crappy tv, screens needing repair and/or painting and the wife out mowing the lawn? Seems that I’ll go for weeks on end without even sticking my head into the modeling room when the weather is nice - Anyway, I started wondering - are the other people out there like me in this - What is your preference? [?][?][?]

I get most of my model building done in the winter. The spring, summer, and fall months are filled with outside activities. From December to March I, don’t have to worry about mowing the lawn. It is too cold to have a cook out or BBQ. Kind of a low key, lay back, take it easy time of the year. That is except for Christmas shopping. But that is another story.

It’s gotta be winter, by far. Too much outdoor fun to be had the rest of the year!

Winter by far. Too much yard work/house upkeep and motorcycling the rest of the year.

Winter is the best time. Gets dark too early to do much outside.

BTW, qmeister, I love Richard Wagner’s music, especially Gottedammerung, Siegfried, Tristan und Isolde, and Die Valkure. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor is superb, and any of Brahms’ symphonies are excelllent. If you like Wagner, you ought to try Franz Liszt and Richard Strauss. Good stuff to model by!!

I have to agree, winter is the best time for me.[:D]

I do more from September to May. In the summer if we have a real hot spell I can usually knock off a kit as my model station in in the coolest part of the house.
I like clasic country and old time rock and roll to build by myself.

Got to agree, winter by far. During the warm weather I do most of my cruising around to buy kits, hardly ever build during the warm weather[bow][bow][bow]

Summer for me…as a teacher-- I get it off. However-- as others here have stated-- there are numerous outside tasks to be done first…but from Sept-- June (except for vacations)-- I only get to spend an hour or two a week on modeling with all the schoolwork I have to do-- as well as spending most of the weekend either cutting firewood or watching football!

last summer I got a fair bit done, but after I finish school this year and get a full-time job, I imagine that winter will become the major modeling time for me.

when i am not sleeping…lol
sunny days i guess due to ventilation requirements…family get pissed off when smelling fumes…but i love the fumes any one else?..lol

School breaks are about the only time and a lot of those I spend on assignments.

I get two week vacation in winter, two in spring and a month in the summer. A lot of building gets done in that time. During the school year, between coaching and trying to be a student and work, only an hour or two a week get done.

I would have to agree with winter as well…typically December through April. In the past many models have gone with un-finished bodies due to the location of my former spray painting are and the liquid air we have down here as I call it. Usually by December the mercury drops as well as the humidity. Though this year we have had a very warm October and November…so far! Highs above 80…Ill be glad when it gets cold…who knows maybe this year will be my year and well see a lil sprinkling of snow as we did a number of yrs ago…Wasnt much just enough to show the natives that this white powdery stuff called snow isnt made up by Yankees it really exists! LOL

Winter for me to. Being in construction ,dealing with grading mostly ,wet months seem to give me alot of time off. This winter I should get alot done since I already am looking at at least 6 weeks off my feet again. Already stocking up kits to do now.

Definately the winter for me. Too many outdoor pursuits in the other months!

Winter is when I get the most out of modeling. Only because here in Arizona it’s cool enough to work in the garage, which is where my modeling shop is located.[:D]

Kinda depepnds…
Anytime (usually at night or weekends) is pretty good, but finer weather usually means that more outdoor activities take precedence.
Rainy, humid weather usually stops me from painting, and totally stops me from doing any resin casting.

I do my building in the night after dinner usually when the kids are asleep. More often than not the best time for me to model is when there is nothing good on TV. It doesn’t really depend on the weather as we only have summer and rainy season here.

I work year round, as the mood strikes. My model room is downstairs and actually in the summer is cooler than the rest of the house. So alot of times I’ll go in there to cool off and model as well.

With a wife and 4 kids and work and church and whatever else comes along sometimes modeling gets low priority. But I always get around to it sooner or later!
