What the heck?

I have the old Revell Gemini and Mercury kit in 1/48 scale. I also recently purchased the Revell first man on the moon kit, the one that has the lunar base with astronauts and experiments and such, also in 1/48 scale.

But the astronauts in the lunar kit are gigantic compared to the astronauts in the Gemini/Mercury kit. It would seem there’s no way both are 1/48 scale. Anyone know what the “true” scale of these kits is?

I’ll have to check further but don’t forget that the lunar astronauts are wearing the PLSS at a whopping 200 lbs or so in 1g. I think that’s quite a bit of additional bluk as compared to the modified flight suits worn for Mercury and Gemini. I was under the impression that the Lunar Module kit is indeed 1/48 scale.

Yeah - I was thinking the same thing about the suits. But the Apollo guys look like they would stand 2 foot taller than the Gemini/Mercury guys. !!

Hi,

For arguments sake a 6ft. guy in 1/48 scale would be 1.5 inches tall. Astronauts couldn’t be taller than 6ft back in the day (today? Dunno)

So even if the guy is 5ft9in in 1/48 scale that makes him 1.42 inches, so true 1:48 would be somewhere around there. Too tall or too short is not 1/48
