What the heck is hobby lobby?

Okay…you guys got me goin’ I don’t exactly live in the boonies, but I’m sorry, I’ve never heard of hobby lobby. I’m reading about you guys scoring some excellent buys on some great kits, and I guess I want to get in the game.

Is this a local store, national franchise, web store or am I just SOL?

Thanks for your consideration,

dragonfly

We don’t have them up here in Canada either but I’ve seen them when I’ve crossed the border. They are like the walmart of craft stores. Everything you could possibly want for a craft they have it. Fortunately for us model builders, they have some of that stuff too.

[8D] Hobby lobby is a national franchise in the US. You can get some good deals there on occasion, up to 50% off, but the selection is somewhat limited. I end up at my local hobby store and going on line.
Cheers,
Eric

Okay… I found wicker baskets and decorative foam balls…

Where’s the models?

go to site and chose on line catalog - choose Crafts etc - go to left hand side bar and select toys & hobbies - then use the last side bar to pick what type of models you are interested in - only problem is there are about 1/3 as many kits as you find on the store shelves.

dragonfly,
First thing I would recommend you do is check the Hobby Lobby web site to see if there is a store within a reasonable distance of where you live. If not, you might as well forget about good deals, because that 50% off coupon they put out every couple of months is usually only good “in store”. It doesn’t apply to web purchases.

Looks like they have gone to 40% off in Store Sales and a 50% Internet Coupon occassionally. Usually about 4 sales a year and a couple or three Internet Coupon sales. I noticed they jacked the retail prices up so they are making money with the sales. I just don’t have a local Hobby Shop so I try and get the “good” stuff when I can. Racked up on Tamiya P-47’s and another Corsair.

Hobby Lobby is located within more of the mid western states with their headquaters in Oklahoma City, OK, and they are moving east & farther west there maybe one close to you by now, if you go to their website www.hobbylobby.com and go into their store info page then into locations you’ll be able to see where they are at, I used to go there just about every weekend when I was stationed at Whiteman AFB, but now I’m in Maryland and they haven’t broken ground here yet but within a few years they should be in my neck of the woods

As Razor said, we don’t have Hobby Lobby in Canada but there is Michael’s which do have some kits but they are only monogram and testors, but the do have 40 and 50% off coupons now and then.

As a caveat, not all HL’s have models. A friend of mine who lives in Springfield, OH says that his local HL doesn’t carry any plastic.
