What rocket kits are available?

Hi,

I am new to this page and new to this genre of model kits too. Let me introduce myself. My real name is Brent and I am from Seattle, WA. I am mostly a fan of vintage muscle cars, but I grew up loving NASA and rockets as a child. I want to put some rocket kits together, but I know more about doing model cars then rockets. To start off, I’d like to know what kits are available.

These are a few kits I am interested in that I know are available or were at one point:

Revell Saturn V 1:96

Revell Saturn V 1:144

Revell Space Shuttle 1:72

Revell Space Shuttle with fuel tank and boosters 1:72

Revell Space Shuttle with boosters 1:144

And maybe the Revell Enterprise Space Shuttle & 747 Piggyback 1:144

Does anyone know if someone makes these kits?

Saturn I

Saturn IB

Saturn V Skylab

Titan

I know AMT/Ertl offers the ‘Man In Space’ rocket collection which includes: Mercury Redstone, Mercury Atlas, Gemini Titan, Saturn 1B and the Saturn V all in 1:200 scale… Anyone know if these rockets in at least 1:44?

Airfix are due to re-release their Saturn !B next year as well as a Skylab version of their Saturn V.

See my post here… /forums/t/123731.aspx

Airfix for the Saturn IB - 1:144

Revell for Saturn V - 1:144 or 1:96 - out of production I think but can be had on eBay

For the Mercury / Gemini programs you can buy the Revell Mercury/Gemini capsule kit 1:48 on eBay the add an aftermarket kit for the boosters like this:

Well that gives me a few options! [:D] Here is another site I found last night.

Saturn 1B 1:44

and many other interesting resin kits and conversions.

Hey, oldmodelkits.com is a pretty cool site. Prices are a little outrageous. I’d like to find a better source to buy kits then evilbay too. Plus to make matters worse; there are no stores that sell model kits in my area anymore.

The Airfix 1/144 Saturn 1B kit is one I’d love to find, but I don’t justify paying $170-$280 for it. I’d also like to find the 1/96 Revell Saturn V…

The Revell 1/96 can be had on eBay for about a hundred clams. One sold recently for about $117 I think.

Oldmodelkits.com IS really cool but, as you said, quite expensive.

I’ve bought a bunch of stuff off eBay and never a problem Just picked up the Testors 1/48 SR-71 for $9.50 !

Chris

Are there any good aftermarket detail kits for the Saturn IB and Saturn V kits? I know there are some for the 1/96 Saturn V, but what about the 1/144 kits?

Glencoe also makes a 1/48 Jupiter C rocket and a 1/6 Explorer I satellite

You could scratch build a rocket like this guy did. Not sure what he used as propellant though, lol.

FYI: Glenn from Real Space Models is working on a 1/144 Saturn V kit which will be much better then the Revel/Airfix kits. Also, he is working on a Energia Buran shuttle that is almost ready. He’s putting together instructions for the kit and it’ll be ready hopefully soon and available on his site.
