hey guys im planning on building dragons hunting tiger and and build otto’s jagd tiger so does anyone out there know of what number his jagdtiger was thanks guys
umm if you know how to make the designation numbers for tanks, this should help…
November of 1943, Otto Carius destroyed 10 Soviet T-34/76 tanks at the distances as low as 50 meters. In August of 1944, Otto Carius was transferred to Paderbornto the newly created schwere Panzerjager Abteilung 512 and received the command of the 2nd company. sPzJagAbt 512 was equipped with powerful Jagdtigers, armed with 128mm Pak 44 L/55 gun. Carius commanded the 2nd company, which was training at Senne Camp near Paderborn and at Dollersheim near Vienna. On March 8th of 1945, without finishing its training, 2nd company was directed to the frontline near Siegburg. It then took part in the defence of the River Rhine and eventually surrendered to the US Army on April 15th of 1945.

“…The Jagdtigers of sPzAbt 512 were overall dark yellow, and no numbering system is known…”

On paper, O.C. was supposed to have 3.Kp of s.Pz.Jg.Abt.512, with 1.Kp in the hands of Albert Ernst, and 2.Kp under “Shrader”.
O.C. himself believes he had 2.Kp, because O.C.'s Kompanie was actually formed up/fielded ahead of Shrader’s Kompanie.
Call-signs for s.Pz.Jg.Abt.512 were 2-3 digit alphanumeric in solid white, 1.Kp used X1-X??, 2.Kp was to be Y1-Y??, 3.Kp supposedly/logically would have been Z1-Z??.
Supposedly no solid pics (yet) support the 3.Kp call-sign suppositions.
So, O.C.'s JTiger would have been Y1 or Z1.

thanks guys for all the help
His tank was numbered 666, and its name was “SPANKY.” The name was applied in pink magic marker, in the later pattern hard-edged lettering.
Was this ever documented?
I thaught the “pinc magic marker” was used only after the “Sonderverband des Heeres, Zuruck, Dabei, Imstand” decisson late october 44?
hey larry by any chance would u have any pics of his jagd tiger ??
if it’s 666 doesnt that mean 6th company 6th platoon 6th tank???
so could any1 shed any light on this one thanks guys
Into the same subject as you Aaron.
Larry’s suggestion does not seem to be very serious,
thanks for helping out Larry?
I’ll go with nfafan’s proposal.
Help here anyone?
Nice sarcasm [:D] A quick bit of Googling tells me that “Sonderverband des Heeres” means “Special Unit of the Army”, but comes up with nothing for the last 3 words. Were these just made up, or is there more to the joke?
Plus, we all know that pink magic marker ink can only be made from special inorganic materials found in the Caucasus and thus wouldn’t have been available in late 1944. Please be more careful with this research in the future.
Unfortunately, no. For some reason that the crew was never able to discover, vehicle 666 did not appear in photographs, nor could one see its reflection in mirrors.
Actually, in this case it’s the 66th tank of the 6th platoon. This unit had 100-vehicle platoons. That throws a lot of people.
It must be Friday…that’s all I can say…
BTW, with regards to the pink, are you sure?? Chances are any photos would have colorshifted by this point in time…I wouldn’t rule mauve or even, dare I say, lavender. [;)]
Given the circumstances in which new vehicles were pressed into service, and due to the fact that most units at this time only existed on paper, it’s not unlikely that O.C.'s Jagdtiger never wore a number at all.
So unless someone can come up with a photo of a vehicle in O.C.'s unit, who knows for sure?

And as the war progressed, the Germans were increasingly unlikely to use any markings at all. All that did, they learned, was give information to the enemy.
i just took a look over at achtung panzer and was reading carius’s bio and on the bottom of the page was a pic of a jagdtiger, im not sure if it was his or not but the number was 331, i was just barely able to make it out. hope that helps slightly
