What manufacturer is best for NASCAR

I am looking for imo’s of which manufacter has really good NASCAR models. I know I should probably stay away from AMT unless I am wrong about their quality. I would like to start a collection and am wondering who is good and who is not.

I don’t know of to many companies that make Nascar models. You are correct IMO, stay away from AMT. I think your only other option is Revell. I am not really into nascar models anymore, but this is how it used to be. I hope that was some help at least.

About the only manufacturer left is Revell-Monogram. They aren’t bad, certainly a lot better than AMT’s offerings.

If you want the older race cars, Polar Lights does some of those. I’ve not built any of them yet but they look decent.

I’ll say one thing though, you’ll have a very colourful collection!

A building tip, the front grille. On some cars it is a separate item and they usually give you a decal for that as well. Install the grille and file it flat and fill any gaps. Once it’s all smooth, you can apply the decal grille. Helps it look much better.

Good luck with your collection!

Thanks for the feed back. I have had a Monogram, Lumina (Dale Earnhart #3) that I have not put together yet. I liked the mdoel and did not want to ruin it. I think now isa good time to do it.

I would definately say Revell. I like all of their pre-2002 offerings, but IMO, on the releases after 2002 the overall quality is good, but the details aren’t as good as they used to be.

AMT sucks- do not use them unless you want headaches. Revell is the only way to go.

Yeah what’s what that? I like the addition of the driver inside the car, but not including the “Goodyear” on the tires is fairly annoying. I have to search for decals for the next car I’m building… I wish for once a car company that makes models would get it right but whatever. I’m still not complaining… it’s better than what AMT offers. (must not have paid goodyear or goodyear didn’t want thier name on the cars)

You’re right on the first count. Didn’t want to pay the $$$ to Goodyear. Easy enough to get those decals though. I have a couple of sheets I’ve found through time, as there have been F1 kits without them too.

I like the Revell kits. I don’t mean to plug any business but I believe Mike’s Decals in making the new size Goodyear tire markings

Avoid AMT/MPC unless you really need that specific model to fullfill your collection. But then plan on lots of extra work time making it all fit correctly.

Revell/Monogram is about the only choice for NASCAR these days.

My son put together an old #3 kit that had raised letter tires we painted. But from what I understand most newer releases don’t come that way anymore. The kit did have tons of detail to it and proved quite a project for him (12 years old). Heck, would have kept me busy too hehe.

I’ve stumbled across a NASCAR Goodyear tire decal sheet online. [;)]

Good luck and have fun putting together your collection. [:D]

Seems like all of AMT’s kits require a lot of “heavy work” to even achieve below par results, but the AMT’s Nascar line with all those roll cages and such just makes it even worse! I swear sometimes I would have been better off scratch building a roll cage![banghead]
